Its people and its ancient history I found the book facinating and quite enjoyable Jeanne M Dams Shadows of death Dorothy and Alen Great series I love reading books here the main characters are over 50 and lovely people Too many writers write of young people and young love forgetting tat those of us considered seniors still think the same way we did when we were 20 Only our bodies age not our souls Read starting with the first book 1 You will not regret this fun mystery series with chief inspector Nesbitt and his wife Dorothy not married at first but a wonderful love story mixed into the cozy mystery series Jeanne M Dams I loved this book I always enjoy reading about the relationship between Dorothy and Alan because they appreciate one another and know they are each lucky to have had two good marriages This time there was a murder almost right away.

Jeanne M Dams lives in South Bend Indiana The Body in the Transept which introduced Dorothy Martin but she goes and falls in love with The Orkneys or what she sees of it There are many Neolithic sites on the Mainland and the most amazing Italian Chapel but of course there is a death and what murder mystery would not have one Alan a retired Chief Constable and his sidekick Dorothy No not Watson their dog who also goes on this trip are asked to help as another possibly detrimental problem corrals the policemen on the island Alan and Dorothy accept this offer to help and a great deal takes place I liked this mystery enjoyed being with Alan and Dorothy again but I learned quite a bit especially about The Neolithic Age in The Orkneys and the Italian Chapel What a touching story that is A definite plus for Anglophiles and mystery lovers Jeanne M Dams A mystery so cozy that not much happens apart from making tea taking naps and taking the dog out for a walk But very enjoyable to visit Orkney again Jeanne M Dams In the 14th novel to feature American ex pat Dorothy Martin and her English husband Alan Nesbit retired Chief Constable of the Belleshire Constabulary the couple go on a week long holiday vacation for you Yanks to Scotland s Orkney Islands the site of a great deal of archeological excavation both in the novel and in real life A tiresome and meddling American millionaire ends up dead early in the novel and Dorothy and Alan help investigate the crime. Shadow of death lyrics Jeanne M Dams weaves a suspenseful tale and also includes lots of tidbits of the Orkney Islands and the prehistoric Britons who lived 50 to 60 centuries ago The interesting facts never get in the way the novel s plot Jeanne M Dams 4. Shadow of death characters 0 out of 5 stars Excavation of a murder May 23 2014 This review is from Shadows of Death A Dorothy Martin Mystery Hardcover Dorothy Martin and hubby Alan Nesbitt ret Chief Constable are on a trip to Orkney to visit stone age excavations Watson their beloved mutt is going along for the duration and intends to take in all the sights with them Alan s friend Andrew Appleby but this crime was removed from the statute book in 1961 The accuracy of police procedure involving a civilian stretches the imagination but an error as glaring as this means that the author needs to be diligent in her research and obtain better proof readers before publishing again Jeanne M Dams As far as I can remember this this actually my first Dorothy Martin Mystery Despite it being 14 I immediately felt at home with the characters and format In no way did I find the need to have read previous books in the series. Of deathless shadows book Dorothy her husband and lovable dog are off to visit the Orkney Islands specifically Mainland Orkney as well as some of the other islands and their tourist attractions Some of the areas are fictitious while others are very real While the couple is visiting the inevitable suspicious Death occurs I found this couple endearing and enjoyed Jeanne M Dams depictions of the Orkneys with several possible suspects but no real evidence to indicate any particular one Many other issues and characters only served to confuse the entire case I very much enjoyed learning about the Orkney Islands and the archaeological excavations there I also found the characters very interesting I am left with a desire to visit there myself one day Jeanne M Dams I love this series by Jeanne M Dams and this is one of her best yet The setting is magnificent and I m wondering how it is that I never thought to go there in my own personal travels It s late for me now at this age so most of my holiday experiences come from reading fascinating novels. Of deathless shadows book I m very fond of this couple and this little romp up to the top of Scotland is just what I needed to give me a bit of a fantasy holiday And together Dorothy Martin and her hubby are a great inspiration to Ms Dams senior readers Jeanne M Dams Modern murder at an archaeological dig Dorothy Martin investigates . Shadows of death black mesa Dorothy Martin and her husband retired Chief Constable Alan Nesbitt go on a trip to Orkney in Scotland to visit an old friend and see some intriguing Stone Age excavations They realize there s considerable dissension between the archaeologists and the principal donor for the newest dig a wealthy and abrasive American.
