The making of a hero This is a prequel to a series of books providing backstory for what looks to be a hero quest type of fantasy The MC is a scout for a village After his husband is killed in retaliation for a raid by village soldiers he sets out to find peace for his people whether they want it or not It s short and not really deep but a good teaser for the series The characters are intriguing and I liked the premise as well The writing varies from very good to slightly awkward but I will be giving the first book a try Fathers and Sons I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this short story a precursor to Cooper s debut novel Tragedy and I was extremely pleased with what I found Without giving any back story of the characters or the setting Cooper drops the reader right into Garren s life where he is attending the market with his husband and son In only a few pages I found myself suddenly and surprisingly attached to Garren and his family and on a roller coaster of emotion for the remainder of the tale Excellent work from a new author I immediately downloaded Tragedy and I can t wait to tell you how it goes Fathers and Sons
