Originally posted on The Canon The last thing Kaireen wants to do is get married especially to the blond Viking who happens to be sitting at her favored spot beside her father s left hand Immediately we dive into Kaireen s struggle against her father s ruling on her marriage as well as her growing attraction to the Viking Bram who slowly makes room for himself in her heart Cooper did an excellent job creating her world without overloading on the sensory details I could see where Kaireen and Bram rode from her father s land to the ocean and I could imagine the ships looming on the horizon The small intimate details of their surroundings built a stronger image in my mind than describing the entire scene down to the blades of grass The rivalries and tense relationships between the other clans added to the tension of the entire novel and lead to the plot twists that are to come in the end The depth of the characters themselves was fascinating Each character from the unnamed handmaiden to Kaireen s mother s annoying handmaiden was created with intention and deliberation It made the entire story running a short 172 pages engaging and fascinating I couldn t put this down Bram s character was the epitome of compassion kindness and sexiness with just the right mixture of roughness mixed in He perfectly matched Kaireen s stubborn yet sweet warrior princess personality Final Thoughts I was nervous for Kaireen amused by her stubbornness flattered by Bram s attentions and thrown by the plot twists The book itself was incredibly entertaining grabbing me from the moment I clicked my Kindle on I liked this book because it was the typical romantic formula that many historical romances use but it had that special something that makes it unique Kaireen s stubbornness was endearing instead of a little irritating possibly because she wanted to admit her love for Bram but wouldn t let herself His calm patient and sometimes impatient wink courting of her was so lovely it was impossible to not cheer for them 1440571228 This review has also been posted on Tangled in PagesI like my historical romances but the ones I usually read are set in the 19th century My one attempt at reading something set farther back was a complete fail cough Born in Sin cough This book is set even farther back in 856 CE but the idea of Vikings being involved was intriguing enough for me to overlook the last time I got burned This was certainly a whole lot tolerable than Born in Sin but the story itself was lacking The setting was pulled off really well but when it came to the plot and characters things just didn t work out.
