I had to move up to a maxi pad to read it Luckily for my dignity this is a book of two distinct halves and things calm down in the second half as Tony spends time describing some of the beautiful villages he passes through for work and tells the history of the French bastide towns Personally I prefer the side splitting narrative of the first half but the contrast makes for interesting reading especially given that I have never visited this region of France I shall have to remedy that one day Maybe on a cycling holiday English Very enjoyable readTook me back at times to when I lived in the lot very enjoyable read Will recommend it to pals English Good BookWell written book.

Book tales from the hilltop analysis Whether roaming through forests of forbidden fruits or wandering in swaying fields of sunflowers they too will need a timely rescue Well that s the theory Tales from the Hilltop A Summer in the other South of FranceTales from the Hilltop by Tony Lewis is a memoir set in France but with a bit of a difference It isn t a we followed our dream and moved to France memoir neither is it a we took off on a big cycling walking adventure in France memoir It is the account of Tony and his wife Ludmilla s summer spent in Cordes sur Ciel in the Tarn where they worked very hard to ensure others had the walking cycling holidays of their dreams As a lover of all things French and especially cycling and walking in France this book called out to me as soon as I saw it and reading it didn t disappoint. Tales from the hilltopk cast During the holiday season Tony and Ludmilla did countless airport runs and drove hundreds of kilometres moving bags they cleaned bikes repaired bikes and always had a smile for the hoteliers and holidaymakers They also had the odd disaster to deal with in their rented accommodation regularly visited their elderly landlords in the local retirement home and became part of the local community Over the summer they got to know the local area and Tony shares some of the history of the Tarn and it s many bastide towns along with plenty of funny snippets of life behind the scenes in the holiday industry I was fascinated by the insights into how these types of holidays work you move from hotel to hotel by bike on foot following a given route and your bags magically find their way from one location to the next without you having to lift a finger If I ever get to go a holiday like this I want Tony and Ludmilla to be my bag shufflers. Excellent book about the South of France However the author gets a little bit rambling as time goes on Still enjoyable. Tales from the hilltopland dvd The author and his wife take a summer job as bike and cyclist tour guide operators in Southern France This book just talks about the first summer although you get the understanding that they did it for than once summer English I got a third into this book and gave up It was boring beyond relief belief and there is interesting reading on my platter The book wasn t all about A Summer in the other South of France It was all about the author Thank goodness it was free English Brits on bikesquick read about Brig running a cycle biz in the South Nice reminders of Cordes.
