Je n ai pas t d ue mais je n ai pas t conquise non plus par ce premier tome pourtant j ai quand m me pass un bon moment de lecture Le d but est pourtant prometteur on entre sans difficult dans l histoire On rencontre Trinity le personnage principal qui est quelqu un de tr s timide et qui angoisse tr s facilement constamment Un soir lors d un s minaire professionnel elle rencontre un homme qui va lui proposer une pilule qui peut effacer toutes ses peurs et lui redonner une confiance en elle implacable On va donc suivre les aventures de Trinity et son escargot Speedy parce que oui l animal de compagnie de Trinity est un escargot En plus on a parfois son point de vue C est assez bizarre parfois mais bon au moins j ai appris des choses sur les escargots haha Un des points n gatifs est que l histoire est r p titive ce que je veux dire c est qu au d but bon elle prend sa pilule magique et il se passe plein de trucs trop bien Mais ensuite le lendemain le tableau se r p te avec entre deux des lamentations sur elle m me etc C est gonflant au bout d un certain temps. Je ne me suis pas attach e aux personnages tr s peu Trinity Mais on n a pas vraiment l occasion de la conna tre puisqu elle n est pas elle m me cause de cette pilule. Tout de m me j ai pass un bon moment de lecture a se lit assez rapidement de par sa fluidit mais aussi du fait que c est un petit livre de 200 pages Je lirai peut tre la suite mais ce n est pas ma priorit La femme sans peur 1 I won a copy of this book in a First to Read giveaway on Goodreads The story is about a shy woman named Trinity Silverman who for reasons that are never fully explained suffers from constant fear and anxiety Despite this her job is to go to trade conferences and give presentations trying to sell her firm s financial software Her companion when she travels is a snail named Speedy that she keeps in a small Plexiglas box On one such business trip to Las Vegas she meets a man in the hotel bar who works for a pharmaceutical company He offers her some pills that he has developed promising that they will take away all of her fears. I had a few issues with this book Conversations were sometimes strange but it was originally written in French and translated into English so that could be the reason for the odd dialog I also had a problem with the way Trinity befriended a hotel maid who allowed her to dig through the garbage to retrieve the her lost pills I didn t find their interaction and fast friendship at all believable Most of all though I was surprised at the amount of time spent on the snail who is not even mentioned in the book blurb This was the first time I had ever read a novel told at least in part from a snail s point of view It ended abruptly and somewhat confusingly but it was only part 1 of the story There are 4 books but the author s style and the unusual subject matter just didn t grab my interest enough to make me want to keep reading to find out what happens La femme sans peur 1 Apparently just the first installmentwill not be reading the others La femme sans peur 1 A neurotic self conscious woman is drinking in a bar the night before her big software presentation when a very confident chemist wants to try his experimental happy pills on her It s a present tense story though not first person because you need to get the snail s point of view yep you read that right I learned a lot about snails than I ever expected to or wanted. At around the halfway mark I couldn t help but wonder what was going to happen would she become addicted or were they placebos The fact that I was invested enough to speculate tells me how much I was enjoying this. Despite her crippling anxiety and her love for snails the protagonist comes off as very likable especially when she strikes up a friendship with the hotel maid though I think the only reason this is part of the story is so the maid can take a pill and show it works for her too But the writing style and setting you never really leave the hotel were a little below what I desire though I would have still happily given this a 4. Except for the ending it s incredibly ambiguous and in conjunction with the relative shortness of pages makes me think the story was cut in half thus setting up a sequel There were many possibilities as to what really happened which is fine for a next to last chapter but readers expect the story to be neatly tied up at the end I felt cheated and will probably not be reading the sequel this drops my grade a star La femme sans peur 1 This French novella translated by Sarah Varney was highlighted by International Thriller Writers. There are French literary elements to the story not only the protagonist s pet but also the story s pace and the protagonist s occupation as a highly mathematical foreign exchange trader that add a welcome texture. The ending twist will delight mystery readers La femme sans peur 1 A big thanks to Netgally for allowing me to read and review a copy of this book Okay so going into this book I found myself relating to Trinity all her fears I found I could relate to myself As a person with low self esteem no confidence and incredibly shy bordering on social anxiety I found that the book was somehow accurate to myself.
