75 starsAuthor Daniel Kaine has already established himself as an excellent author of the paranormal genre with his Daeva series Now he tackles a coming of age theme and opts to give it his own special twist in the novel No Angel Focusing on two young men Sam and Josh who have been thrown together along with a few other younger kids due to one unifying factor their extraordinary special abilities From the gift of invisibility to seeing the future this ragtag group lives on the very edge of society marginalized not only because of their strange powers but also because of the physical manifestation that indicates they are different a pair of small horns atop their head. Pdf reader not working This physical anomaly sets them apart causing people to not only fear them but cruelly bully and worse dismiss them as nothing but useless garbage that does not deserve to be seen So they lurk in an abandoned building trying to eke out an existence together to survive living on the streets where no one helps no one cares no one truly sees the pain they must endure at being outcast from society. No angel group It is Sam who finds Josh newly kicked out from the abusive home of an aunt and uncle who promised to care for him after his mother died from cancer Josh is being set upon by two homeless men intent on beating him and stealing the few possessions he has with him Before his disbelieving eyes Josh watches as Sam transforms into some form of avenging angel complete with wings and then brutally beats the two men senseless rescuing Josh and bringing him home to the others Thus begins their life together living on the streets. No angel coats In one of many dark moments where Josh or one of the others are bullied the act of bullying is taken to a whole new level and one of their own is mortally wounded Now Josh must do all he can to keep Sam from exposing them all in his lust for revenge or Josh may lose not only the first real friend he has ever had but the boy he may very well be falling in love with as well. No angel audiobook I found No Angel to be a remarkably well crafted story a paranormal that stands outside the box and for once chooses to focus on the humanity within these special kids rather than just their unique powers This novel is about survival and finding your way in a world that loves to destroy anyone who is different making them a social pariah or worse invisible Author Daniel Kaine opts to focus on how bullying can become violent to the point of destruction but he does so by wrapping it up in a fast action packed story with characters that are achingly real and vulnerable Josh so abused by his uncle and dismissed by his aunt has never felt the hand of friendship always living on the fringe despised and alone When Sam reaches out to him he can barely believe that for the first time someone actually cares about him loves him And Sam poor Sam who has suffered such disappointment over the abandonment of his parents and has turned that grief inward only to have it fester into the anger that so often threatens to consume him These two come together in the sweetest of discoveries of first love and lasting friendship and burrow into your heart so quickly as this story unfolds. Epub no angel free Perhaps the only drawback to this sweet and carefully crafted novel is the too rapid resolution While I had no problem with the way in which the author chose to wrap this story up I felt that it could have had just a bit time on the page perhaps to see Sam struggle just a bit with the tremendous changes that occur in his life However this was really a minor note in an otherwise compelling and beautifully written story about first love. No angel eyes Josh finds himself alone forced out of the home of his uncle and aunt on to the dismal streets of the city Lacking in street survival skills he soon becomes a victim of a brutal mugging His saviour comes in the form of an angel Sam Sam takes Josh home and tends to his injuries After offering Josh a home the young men form a friendship easily but it s not without its misunderstandings and moments of awkwardness. No angel guccihighwaters This is a whole new world to Josh in spite of the lack of love and support in his previous home life there are new hardships to contend with now Josh is intelligent and refuses to give up on his education he knows he needs this as part of his survival With the help of Sam teaching him the necessary skills of street survival and friendship Josh begins to feel confident and relaxed about his predicament He knows Sam has his back something he hasn t felt since he was a young child Josh lets down his guard to Sam slowly letting the awkwardness dispel between them. No angelf fire Sam has a taste of happiness with Josh around having a friend of his own age with the same condition Sam can t hide his attraction to Josh for very long and he toils with his feelings over his new friend He doesn t want to lose Josh as a friend and hopes that he will stay with them and help to continue to provide for his new family Sam is affectionate and caring he has taken on the responsibility of three children providing them with a family home a place of safety away from the streets Although Sam is passionate and dedicated he has a temper and when his family are threatened his passion turns to anger and revenge. No angel dress I did however have some reservations about this book I picked this book because I liked the premise of the story and in that I was dissappointed in a few things Firstly this book could almost be classified YA Now contrary to some peoples opinion I do NOT only read books with sex in it but I was dissappointed in this because it really wasn t made clear from the start that it would have a very mild heat rating There is off the page sex which is implied than even mentioned even in character self monologues and some lead up and the whole kidlet interuptus which is beyond amusing but thats it They sleep together sleep being the operative word. No angel facebook page Next was the whole Devil Syndrome and the other paranormal things alluded to in the blurb and poked at in the story but never fully explored or delivered on which was to me disappointing There was a whole scope of world building that could have been done within this story which was barely touched There are questions I still have especially regarding Josh and Sam and damn I wanted them answered The whole humans hate us thing was also never fully explained and it was also not universal Josh had his Mum and Sam had Oooo can t tell you that its a spoiler. No angel facebook post But that brings me to another point in the story which was not really fleshed out Sams backstory and why he is soooooo angry all the time I get Teenage angst I get the us against them feeling all kids go through at one point or another deserved or not but it almost felt like Daniel A Kaine wanted to add this to the paranormal plot that never eventuated or there was a reason which we never got I also understood the why of the plot twist at the end but never truly connected with that particular character nor understood what his gift was supposed to be. No angel newark Now having said all of that and if you can get over my percieved discrepencies from the blurb to the book it is a promising story As I said it was of a glimpse into the start of their lives I feel the questions I have left is the reason why I was disappointed not the actual content in the story Daniel I think be an author to watch and follow because I did want to know and I felt and if I am engaged I am continuing to read and that to me is an indication that there is something there Daniel A Kaine Josh and Sam share a rare birth defect that sets them apart from almost everyone else Devil Syndrome as its known is presents itself in the form of two small stumps on the forehead sort of like horns Side affects may include wings the ability to create force fields and sometimes manipulate energy Soon enough Josh and Sam will share much than being born this way Josh was handed off to his drunk abusive uncle and aunt five years ago when his mom died of cancer Now on his eighteenth birthday after years of verbal mental and physical abuse he is handed fifty dollars and shown the door His first night on the streets he encounters a couple of mean homeless bums that intend to rob him of what few possessions he has He s rescued by a young man with crackling electric blue energy in his hands and blinding white wings. No angel dress Sam ran away from home after his mother died as well feeling his father didn t love him and was pulling away He wound up in an abandoned house with three children that all share the same birth defect that he has He protects shelters and feeds these kids keeping them as safe as he can from the hatred of the outside world He finds Josh in the alley about to be mugged and saves him bringing him back to their sanctuary The two share than a common bond of their syndrome their attraction is immediate and mutual But Josh fights it at first completely thrown by the foreign urges to touch and kiss his avenging angel This motley crue sets up a home of sorts with petty crimes robbery and an occasional slight of hand feeding and keeping them alive And though they don t all always agree on the execution they realize it s the only way to survive at the end of the day When a bully that has always been a thorn in Josh s side confronts Sam after Sam humiliated him for picking on Josh the results are deadly In the aftermath Sam pulls away not just from Josh but from everyone With the help of an unlikely ally can Josh convince Sam that he loves him and convince him they deserve to be happy Before Sam does something that will put everyone with their syndrome in jeopardy. No angelf freestyle I loved this story and the play on words with devils syndrome when these kids are anything but evil They are forced to make sometimes bad decisions by a society that has shunned them in order to survive Both characters grow tremendously throughout the story as individuals but ultimately it s their connection to each other that saves them in the end Not a lot of positive gay YA books out there this one definitely hit the mark Daniel A Kaine Reviewed for Hearts On Fire Reviews 4 heartsThis book dealt with three issues that have always had a powerful impact on me homelessness hunger and parental guardian dismissal I think the first two of these have always been personal fears unfounded in my personal life but very real nonetheless so I m simultaneously drawn and repelled by the subject matter and the third issue just gets my blood boiling The combination of the three made for a very intense plot driven story that had me riveted I loved the underlying themes and messages going on in this story A group of misfit kids finds one another and end up creating their own little family unit They have a lot in common they all suffer from something called devil s syndrome they all have some type of special power they have all been dismissed by their real families or been made to feel as though they didn t fit in and they are all just trying to survive It s endearing to watch how this homegrown family helps and supports one another Sam is the head of household figure despite being young himself and somewhat the guardian angel over his brood of misfits If it weren t for his avenging angel routine I d say this is a great YA story It has a great plot plenty of impactful as well as positive messages a little bit of romance and no sex just be aware that Sam has a bit of a temper when it comes to anyone messing with one of his little family and he does exact revenge with physical harm All throughout the story I was rooting for this unique little family to catch some sort of break I m thrilled to say that they definitely get an unexpected happy ending but not before having to experience some of life s most rotten blows The emotion and subject matter kept me on edge and feeling anxious throughout most of the book but that s what made it great I d definitely recommend this book for anyone who prefers lots of plot even if it revolves around something a little dark and heavy strong characters no sex kissing only and a wonderful come from behind to emerge the victor type happy ending Daniel A Kaine Daniel Alexander Kaine is a writer of gay fiction who is proud of his British ness and correct spelling of doughnuts. No angels episode 1 25 starsAt eighteen Josh finds himself homeless and utterly alone when his aunt and uncle give him 50 and a door in his face Happy Birthday When his mother died of cancer five years earlier he was reluctantly taken in by his drunk uncle and uncaring aunt as fulfilment of his mother s dying wish to them The reason for their disdain of him is the condition he was born with Devil Syndrome a birth defect that results in two horn like bone protuberances on the head A condition that is met with fear and superstition by a large portion of society thus often leaving those with it as outcasts Now after five years of drunken beatings and verbal and mental abuse on his first night on the streets Josh is aimlessly wandering the streets looking for a place out of the rain when he beset upon by two homeless men intent on stealing his meagre possessions and beat him senseless Just as he s losing consciousness Josh sees what appears to be an angel with pure white wings coming to his rescue But when he wakes it s to find not an angel but Sam another homeless young man Sam his rescuer has brought Josh back to the derelict house that he calls home and shares with three kids all of whom suffer the same Devil Syndrome as Josh Josh finds himself attracted to Sam He s never really experienced a draw to anyone else before and it takes him awhile to accept how he feels about Sam and the overwhelming need he has to kiss him and touch him. No angel allman brothers When a group of bullies bring down an event that impacts their little family Sam agrees to Josh s insistence to let the authorities handle it After there looks like there will be no justice given Sam gives in to his darker side Can Josh s balancing influence be enough to show Sam that those he is harming the most is himself and others like him Sam has a lot of anger in him as well as his protective streak and that anger sometimes leads him to make some decisions that aren t very wise and take actions that are not necessarily the right thing to do Josh could understand where that sometimes bleak outlook and wish for vengeance on a society that was oppressing them came from That understanding made Josh determined to break Sam free of that darkness and show him that he deserved happiness just like anyone else. No angel meaning These boys had already gone through so much before they had even met each other Life and society continued to throw obstacles in their way and I couldn t help but hope they would somehow manage to overcome them all Sam s anger at the world was so intense at times that it seemed it might consume him Once Josh faced his attraction to Sam and the typical eighteen year old contributions to misunderstandings their relationship was so very sweet They balanced each other out with Sam s practicality and Josh s idealism Sam s need for retribution and Josh s insistence to not do the wrong thing Sam s belief that there was no possibility of a better future for them and Josh s belief that they could find a way to make one I really felt for these guys and their young charges The kids were absolutely integral to Sam and Josh s story and were great secondary characters They supported the plot and the MCs without ever taking over It was very much Sam and Josh s story Although there was no sex the kissing was both sweet and passionate I loved the ideas used in this book and the growth and development of the characters Josh and especially Sam went through some life altering realisations and came out the other side an even better person. Love angel no Read the full review at Live Your Life Buy The Book Daniel A Kaine 4 StarsA Live Your Life Buy The Book ReviewFollow the link for review Daniel A Kaine Well I really liked this one and of course some of the money raised from sales of the book go towards helping an LGBT charity over here in the UK 4 stars and This is the story of Josh 18 who is out on the streets after being kicked out by his aunt and uncle and quite different to so called normal peoplehe has two horns on his head which are as a result of a birth defect this defect is called Devil s Syndrome and as he s being beaten up by drunks one night the last thing he remembers is being rescued by an angel Sam Sam is also afflicted if that s the right word by Devil s Syndrome and takes Josh back to the condemned house he lives in together with 3 younger kidshe acts as their guardian all of them have Devil s Syndrome and all of them have gifts Josh can create a force field around himself but hasn t had much practice at using it so it s quite weak Sam can call upon a tremendous amount of power and unfortunately sometimes doesn t know when to stop using that power James is a wiz with anything electronic and can scramble cameras etc. Dailymotion no angels Bec can make herself invisible and is very useful for stealing things without anyone knowing and the last member of their little group is Robbie who can talk to dead people and they offer him lots of advice for the group in particular one lady named Melissa. No angel facebook post I have to say that for most of the book I was thinking of the film X Men First Class but without Professor Xavier and Magneto and as I m a sucker for those sort of comic book films was very happy to be taken along for the ride the only difference being in this case that the two MC s were gay I too would have liked world building and I have no idea whether this is a standalone book or the start of a series but I would love to discover what happens further on down the line Daniel A Kaine Le sigh Here we have yet another example of an author who has potential but needs help With pretty much everything But most importantly Kaine needs help making his environment and the character reactions within them believable Because I don t care what syndrome you re born with it s a little difficult to believe that every single person in Leeds would treat these kids with such disdain The hate device was way way over the top Then we have Kaine s base ignorance in regards to how the world works Josh s brand new digital camera works straight out of the box no charging or memory card insertion necessary and you know that was bad enough But the idea that two 18 year old boys could get away with running a halfway house for homeless kids without the state becoming involved is simply ludicrous Add in the fact that no one ever has to face any real consequences for their actions and this entire story just turns into rage fuel Daniel A Kaine
