if you survive of children abuse read this book gave you hope and you not alone know this you can survive this l Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse This book speaks to the hidden aspects of child psychological physical and sexual abuse from the inside by the victim Having worked in law enforcement for 30 years and having investigated many such cases I found this book to be heart wrenching I wish to speak further about this work but fear that I might impose upon future readers Recommend especially for victims of domestic abuse Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse This is an excellent true to life story about Sey and the abusive childhood she suffered I am not an advocate of religion but that is where she found her strength Religious or not you should enjoy this story of survival Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse Choppy disjointed and unpolished not recommended Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse Please Lord don t let him find me Please Lord don t let him find me I cried out this prayer in desperation for some kind of help someone to rescue me from my childhood of fear and abuse but nobody came I sought safety when and where I could find it in the cornfield under the bed behind the couch or in the forest rocking back and forth tears blurring my vision I was petrified terrified alone and helpless to stop the physical emotional mental and sexual abuse my father inflicted day in and day out. If you ve suffered in silence at the hands of a guardian parent family member friend or colleague this book is for you If you ve experienced physical emotional or mental abuse rape and or sexual molestation this is your story as much as it is mine Walk with me Together we will find our way. My greatest of all hope is that these stories and my life help other survivors find hope healing and comfort in knowing they are not alone This book is for all those who have and continue to suffer in silence Out of Suffering have emerged the Strongest Souls the most massive characters are seared with scars Kahlil Gibran Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual AbuseI had the honor of receiving a coveted signed copy of Shards of Glass from CW herself I have to say that Shards of Glass was a very intense read It s a story of survival told from the point of view of the survivor CW Sey This is a true story that speaks to many of us who are child abuse survivors As a survivor of child abuse I could relate to the deep and intense emotions and the confusion that the child goes through when they are being abused This story is a spiritual journey of hope It is not a story of sadness It s important that we speak up about our abuse and help others no matter how old we are CW has certainly spoken up and she has helped me with her story I hope that she will help many others Especially those who have not had the courage to speak up yet It s never too late to do it Thanks CW Your voice was meant to be heard and you re doing what God has called you to do Felicia Johnson Author of Her Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse An Ultimately Hopeful Story of a Brutal ChildhoodCW Sey s gripping memoirs Shards of Glass left me feeling breathless in places She paints a picture of a father s brutality with language that is clear fast paced and evocative Sey s book serves as both a call to arms and as an anthem for those of her readers who have also endured great suffering and abuse It is my hope that fellow victims of domestic violence and physical emotional and sexual abuse will draw courage and strength from Sey s work. If there is one main theme in Shards it is that it is possible to heal even from horrible trauma Women and men like Sey can not only survive their past They can heal what s broken and live thriving lives as adults despite the sins committed against them. Indeed despite the horrific physical abuse she suffered and witnessed in her childhood home Sey manages to piece together an as yet unfinished but at heart hopeful mosaic of healing from the painful pieces that constitute her past in the pages of her book I am heartened by the author s views on such matters as God shame forgiveness and guilt and I very much look forward to a promised sequel which will further outline how Sey finished constructing her life her healed whole self from the broken shards of her childhood Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse You ve seen this girl You may even know her You ve seen her suddenly flare up and lash out in anger at a classmate You ve heard her explode with 4 letter expletives She smokes does some pot even sleeps around a bit In your eyes she s not a nice girl but then your eyes haven t seen what she has your body hasn t suffered what hers has your mind hasn t experienced the fear hers felt as she ran frightened into the bushes at night praying Please lord don t let him find me This brash teen grew up in a home you wouldn t wish on any child The him she was running into the bushes to escape was her father an unpredictable violent man with an uncontrollable temper especially after drinking who terrified and brutalized his wife and two elder daughters mercilessly and frequently Shards of Glass is the true story of the author s early years written anonymously as family members are still very much alive and her story needs to be told now doing so might just help other young children growing up with an unpredictable parent As CW quotes at the beginning of one of the chapters An unpredictable parent is a fearsome god in the eyes of a child Susan Forward with Craig Buck Toxic Parent While CW was growing up her father yo yo d between so caring for his wife and children that heaven help anyone who hurt them to himself hurting them so badly they barely survived his raging physical onslaughts He played mind games too almost running down CW with his car kicking her out of the car to walk home alone in the dark a person empowered by frightening those who couldn t fight back. What makes CW s story even worse is that her father did not limit himself to physical and mental abuse as his two elder daughters grew into teens he took to voyeurism and exhibitionism watching them through peepholes in the bathroom walls while they were showering or dressing or later standing around fully naked and masturbating in front of them How revolting for a young teen to have to witness her own father doing this As a victim of child sexual abuse I recognize CW s father He reminds me too much of my own These are men who somewhere along the line felt powerless felt they had lost control of their own lives and then sought to regain it by destroying the lives of those closest to them My heart goes out to CW her sister and her sad mother. And then on top of everything else wrong in her young life CW is raped by another parent in her town The rape completely blew her mind Yet somehow she d buried that deep in the memory banks until a friend came right out and asked Were you raped That question was the catalyst CW needed to open the floodgates and pour Shards of Glass onto the page. As traumatic as the author s young life was one of the things that the reader will love is her courage and stamina Despite her fear of her father she is strong and feisty and as she matures both mentally and physically you just know she is going to come out of this a winner And she does The reader applauds her hard earned victory and closes the book with sadness but with the satisfaction that the abuser was the real loser as it should be. Readers will need to be patient reading this book as it s 90% exposition narrative So unlike fiction or a whodunit there s little conversation to keep it moving along quickly The book could have benefitted from that kind of approach but CW s passionate narration is so compelling and riveting in the violence it depicts it keeps you reading regardless You forget you re reading a true story until CW suddenly interjects her current thoughts or disposition into her narrative And in a way it s just as well you forget you re reading a memoir the truth is so horribly brutal. It took a great deal of courage for CW to write this book her first and now that she has she deserves to be read Add Shards of Glass to your want to read list now Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse Shards of Glass by CW Sey is an intense and at times uncomfortable look at a womans childhood and upbringing by abusive parents Sexual abuse violence and emotional cruelty mark a tragic life that our heroine describes in short snapshots. Admittedly at times I found the religious aspect of the author s survival over emphasized and taking the spotlight from the other healing aspects of her journey but this is a personal memoir and confession and not a self help book per se. Sey does a great and brave job at sharing intimate moments of her life and inspires with her faith in the future and the Lord It must have been difficult to open to the public about many dramatic events in her life but by sharing her story Sey not only gives the issue of abuse another voice she sets an example for others and puts another foot print on a path that hopefully will become trodden and visible Her character strength and resolve are truly remarkable Touching powerful and very worthy of your time Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse Anyone who was abused as a child needs to read this book C. W Seymour tells what is was like growing up with an abusive father and now I know that I am not alone and that someone truly understands what it was like to be abused I could not put it down Shards of GlassA Little Girl s Journey Back into Her World of Physical Mental and Sexual Abuse
