EBook Understanding eschatology today

Many evangelicals have come to embrace a populist eschatology that has neither the support of the historical church nor of the scholarly world today For some this has led to a disillusionment with eschatological speculations For others the results are apathy and a failure to understand the mission of God s people This is tragic For when the entirety of the New Testament is read and understood from an eschatological perspective the grand narrative of Scripture and its fulfillment in Jesus comes clearly into focus A proper framework for understanding eschatology directly correlates to a proper understanding of the mission of God s people who are themselves carrying forth the biblical story as we approach the New Jerusalem To fail to comprehend eschatology is to fail to comprehend our mission This book has two First to provide a proper hermeneutical framework from which we may discern a biblical eschatological worldview Second to demonstrate that a proper eschatological framework relates to the mission of God s people and the demand for holiness Thus eschatology matters Understanding Eschatology Why It MattersUnderstanding Eschatology: Why It MattersI ve had the privilege in life of having been taught by Rob Dalrymple and so with all fair disclosure I come at this review with a personal bias That said I ve also been able to see his message evolve over the years as his understanding in the Scripture has grown but he has always drilled into his students one precept when you analyze scripture it s crucial to understand what the author intended and not interpret the text with our own cultural biases. Understanding Eschatology ebook3000 For those who know him Dalrymple is one of the foremost authorities on Biblical prophecy and deciphering its meaning Dalrymple may not use those strong words to describe himself but that is due to humility Onto the book A line in the closing argument sums the book up best I have not intended so much to provide answers as much as I have attempted to provide a framework for the conversations This is in reference to the book title which is UNDERSTANDING Eschatology emphasis mine The book truly is about how a Christian should view scripture in order to interpret it for themselves instead of telling you what you should conclude from the interpretation When you think of eschatology it s hard not to think of so much we learn as youths about 666 embedded computer chips in our wrists epic battles dragons two witnesses getting shot in Jerusalem and the building of the temple It s so engrained in our culture that few question it and books like Daniel and Revelation are so difficult a study to decipher few question the signs and portents we re supposed to look for So one might expect an argument about when the rapture occurs before or after tribulation or the like On the contrary Dalrymple demonstrates a view of Revelation and deciphering its meaning which will challenge almost every Western Christian s worldview It is both Biblically sound and refreshing The message we are to conclude from it is one of both hope and work but it s extremely eye opening Understanding Eschatology has shattered the conventions in which I assumed were truths but are in actuality misconceptions due to a engrained Western ideology We do have to change our convention of thinking when we read Scripture to understand what the authors intended Scripture is written primarily to an audience thousands of years ago and the terms and metaphors they use are targeted toward those cultures and secondarily to us as a tool to understand God s kingdom That s not to say their words are less relevant today but we gain further understanding of their relevance when we read Scripture correctly. EPub Understanding eschatology definition I found the book to be both useful and insightful I do not recommend this to a casual reader who s checking out Revelation based on cultural preconceptions of the end times or someone who s new to Christianity Some of the arguments in here do rely on a base level knowledge of Scripture I do however recommend this to anyone who wants to dig deep into their Christian understanding This book would be particularly helpful to those in graduate studies of theology or to Pastors anywhere Overall the book is an academic read and is challenging on both spiritual and intellectual levels It will expand your horizons and as he stated provide a framework for further conversation on eschatology In my opinion Dalrymple s understanding of scripture and his ability to communicate his ideas rival that of G. Understanding Eschatology ebook S Lewis and his books are worthy of study 196 Good content Comes from a partial preterist viewpoint Gave it 4 stars because the beginning was very repetitive 196 1 2 196
