Fascinating goes places that you didn t know existed Paperback Read my full review or opinion This is the most unusual cookbook that I have reviewed from Storey Publishing Cool but unusual. Open fire cooking book This is a really unique cookbook for cooking on open fire in pits etc It included plans for building an open wood fire oven outdoors I am just not sure how many of the recipes or techniques were truly practical There were a number of recipes such as rabbit or fish chowder to name a few that I wouldn t eat There were also several recipes that I would be concerned with the thoroughness of cooking I didn t think that this was a cookbook for a novice I must admit that there were numerous recipes that I felt would challenge my cooking skills Paperback I checked this out of the library as an E book and had loading problems with my Nook that frustrated me BUT I think that there is a lot of good stuff in here for novices and seasoned barbecue lovers see what I did there Marcoux does a good job of relating the need of understanding fire tools and food and the impacts on each other Food is a great catalyst of fellowship and by reading and understanding how to not only cook but endow others with this knowledge and skill would only help heighten the experience Lots of good ideas on here about planning parties to include everyone hosting and recipe ideas Paperback This book has fire red meat and DIY projects Throw in cold beer and you have everything that a middle aged man needs to be happy The author was even kind enough to throw in some rabbit food recipes for those who go for such things Paperback I can t recommend this book highly enough. Open fire cooking book I received a copy of this from Storey Publishing for my honest review All thoughts and opinions are my own Paperback I bought two copies one for my culinarily adventurous son in law and one for myself This is a wonderful book that reminds us that there is to cooking than getting stuff at the store and heating it up on the stove Paula brings her knowledge of slow food and history love of local foods and eating and can do attitude to us in a colorful smorgasbord of recipes and practicum for cooking with fire She has included everything imaginable from making the fire and whittling a roasting stick to smoking baking roasting and even building your own mud oven And all of this comes together beautifully through her witty delivery and humorous recollections of her adventures with food Not only is it loaded with really cool hot eclectic recipes it s also really fun to read and inspiring Paperback Lots of really neat tips in here Can t wait until I get my barbecue Oooh Paperback I ve been reading this book on and off since I bought it in August which means that it s taken me about half a year to get through I bought the kindle version and I m seriously tempted to buy the paperback for ease of reference and for clearer illustrations. Cooking with friends game The beginning was all about how to light a fire and I thought OK I know all of this but it quickly moved on to territory that was new to me starting with insights about coppiced wood and moving on through an enormous range of historical and multi cultural cooking techniques all the way up to the final section on pizza ovens This last part also had some interesting tips on making and keeping a sourdough starter and I think that I may even try to do that finally after many years of baking bread with instant yeast I would recommend this book to all adventurous cooks and to writers of historical fiction and quasi historical fantasy who want to beef up their cuisine related world building Paperback I originally grabbed this book because we do a lot of grilling in the summer but it ended up being much From everything to choosing the best woods building a good fire creating a fire pit and spit and best practice for marshmallow toasting There s something wonderful about cooking over an open fire and Cooking With Fire gives many options for that than hotdogs and s s I will definitely be throwing an acorn squash into the coals very soon While a probably won t be roasting anything over a spit anytime soon I now know how to build one The directions are written out very clearly and with a bit of humor for example Wrangle your victim onto the spit and if you would like to experience the life of a seventeenth century kitchen drudgeThe Smoke section was what appealed most to me There was good information on what woods to choose and how to set up the smoker box As well as temperature ranges brine and seasonings Full of unique recipes and different ways to cook I won t be using all of the techniques but I will be trying some open fire techniques and smoking recipes This book was received for free in return for an honest review Paperback
