I got this to review through the Vine program I love graphic novels and was excited to read this one It probably wasn t fair to this book that I just finished reading Vinland Saga since that book is absolutely awesome and deals with similar subject matter. Barbarian lordw with The art is simple but emotive the characters mostly the burly nordic men one would imagine populate a Norse world The setting is similarly northern European the armor and the boats and everything pointing toward that mentality though the actual world seems to be original with gods and mythology and peoples that would not appear anywhere in the past With that original setting though everyone still is very white and male I would have very much liked to have seen some greater diversity in the characters as there s no real excuse for a book written today to have to follow the perceived whiteness of the fantasy realms I thought the art was reminiscent of Jeff Smith s Bone with the same kind of character design and mood the same mix of hard action with humor though this story is a bit of an action adventure than anything else. Kindle Barbarian lord I enjoyed that the story was largely framed by birds that they were the element that linked segment to segment that they provided some narrative where Barbarian Lord himself with his stoic personality would not I also enjoyed that for all his brawn and rough edges Barbarian Lord is a poet as well and can turn a phrase easily and well The bard off much like a modern rap battle was hilarious and showed that Barbarian Lord has than one way to fight though still mostly only the one way to kill.
