The House With the Wraparound Porch Mystery thrillers books 5 Thanks to the author and librarything The House With the Wraparound Porch This is my most ambitious work and I hope you enjoy it The novel was written over two years but the inspiration came far far earlier You see my grandparents had this magnificent Queen Anne style home with a wraparound porch and my fondest childhood memories come from time spent on it Their house was the touchstone for my family so many important moments occurred on its porch. Pdf the house with the wraparound porch plans pdf About the time I started framing the story my cousin told me of a near drowning experience he had It reminded me of a tragedy that befell my grandfather and his classmates one summer s night on Keuka Lake in New York s Finger Lakes I wove their two experiences into the dramatic opening of the story. Book the house with the wraparound porch for sale Although not autobiographical the story is definitely inspired by my family s life experiences as well as those of other large Irish Catholic families I knew growing up Their stories will remind you of yours or people dear to you The themes of what they endure are universal. The house with the wraparound porch book summary The saddest thing about finishing a novel is that the characters who have been talking so animatedly in your mind during the story s creation are silenced I grew very fond of Mame and Jimmy as I think you will also And as their tale unfolds she makes a bad shot gun marriage with the Bad Boy Joe of the town The marriage fails but not before they have six girls Clare Noreen Molly Terrie Molly and Eileen The latter part of the novel traces what happens to the six girls and the one big secret one of them has The description of so many characters unfortunately means none are particularly well rounded Due to the prevalence of bad male characters Jimmy father Dan Joe and Noreen s husband the author seems to have a dim view of men Nonethelessand at times I felt like I was right there taking part in the family s conversations The author captures a very real sense of time and place revealing both the joys and sorrows of life and the ties that bind I finished the novel wishing the McNamara sisters all the best in my mind as I felt I really got to know them and the wonderful wraparound porch that is such a integral part of their inner fabric and heritage Highly recommended The House With the Wraparound Porch I have wanted to read this book for years Now that I ve done it I m so glad I did Now I want to plan a Finger Lakes vacation The House With the Wraparound Porch This is the story of four generations with a focus on Jimmy and Mame Frances and Joe Clare Noreen Maggie Terrie Eileen and Molly MaraThe story begins in 1920 with the meeting of Jimmy and Mame Jimmy has just had a tragedy in his life and he becomes Mame s project for the summer They fall in love and have two children Frances and Pat From there the kids have kids who have kids This book follows the generations through to 2006 It was interesting to read how much times have changed since the 1920s For example Mame is a schoolteacher but must give up her job if when she gets married because then she has a husband who will take care of her and she d be taking a job away from a man who needs it. The house with the wraparound porch humor meaning This is the first book I ve read by this author and I liked it I liked the writing style and thought it flowed well The story went off on some odd directions but it kept my attention For the most part the language and activity can be read by everyone there are just a couple swear words It s a long book over 500 pages and I thought the author could have made two books out of it the first one covering the first two generations and the second one covering the third and fourth generations I found that I had enough closure about halfway through after Mame s death for the next two generations to start their own book There was enough info relating back to the prior generations that book two could be a stand alone With the third generation Clare Noreen Maggie Terrie Eileen and Molly each had their own chapter to let us know what they were doing and why I liked the characters Though I questioned doubted some of their actions decisions I cried but most of all I felt as if I was part of the family This book spans several generations of family and is set in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State As I sit here writing this I can smell the Fried Cakes cooking. Book the house with the wraparound porch in nj Find your special space to curl up and read this book Top it off with a glass oh heck a bottle of New York Finger Lakes wine Cheers The House With the Wraparound Porch Disclosure I was lucky enough to receive this book from the author for review through another website. The house with the wraparound porch book review Although there are quite a few characters to try to keep track of I liked them all with the exception of Mara she just seemed a little too eager to please and fit in for my taste In fact I felt like each generation could ve had their own book because they all lived the kind of lives that are seemingly normal while underneath there are all kinds of fascinating scandal intrigue mystery and drama. Two story farmhouse with wrap around porch What I really liked in the book is how the author didn t stick to a traditional way of telling a story from multiple viewpoints I think many authors would ve devoted a chapter to each character s viewpoint and continually flipped between them all Mary Pat manages to seamlessly intertwine the lives and the perspectives within chapters and does so without confusion and without jarring the reader As each generation passes on in the book it brought to mind my own family I know one or two of the family secrets but I wonder just how many have been buried forever The House With the Wraparound Porch.
