Wraith pirates one piece Reading the paperback version the line height was too small to accommodate letters with tails making Dr Gilroy appear to be Dr Gilrov etc There were also a couple of instances where quotation marks were replaced with 2013 in odd places Typsetting issues with the publisher Once I adapted to those oddities I had no other editorial problems 202 I recently received a Goodreads first reads copy of the Pirate s Wraith by Penelope Marzec I had not read any books by this author but the synopsis sounded interesting I m a big fan of time travel books so I was excited to read this novel Lesley has just ended her engagement to an abusive man Her car gets struck by lightening when she drives during a storm She travels from 2011 back to 1711 where she lands on pirate ship The captain Harlan bears a strong resemblance to Lesley s former fianc Women on ships were a bad omen so she disguises herself as a cabin boy The book follows the painful and emotional journey Lesley and Harlan have to undertake Lesley wants to get home to her life in 2011 and Harlan wants to move on with his life He had lost his wife son and his fortune A wooden horse that Harlan carved for his son had come into Lesley s possession in 2011 it plays a huge part in the book I found this aspect of the story quite unique The primitive aspects of 1711 are well presented by the author The hard life of women in 1711 was also painfully told If I had one criticism of this book it would be the need for a bit editing I did not let that lack mar my enjoyment of his book however I thoroughly enjoyed The Pirate s Wraith Time travel books always require a bit of imagination for the what ifs I liked Lesley and Harlan and the secondary characters were essential to the story I would recommend this book it was a quick and interesting read 202
