While Abeka offers solid homeschooling materials this was the the one and only time I have ever switched curriculum after starting it and we just completely abandoned this one And I am NOT one of those pushover parents who doesn t persevere nor do I cater to a child s every whim It s not that it wasn t good but it was rather dry and my daughter who has never been that fond of science anyway was especially disliking this book and growing in her dislike of science the further we delved into this book We discovered Apologia Science just prior to beginning this book but I was a little reluctant to try their materials for some reason After prayerful consideration boy am I glad we tried them My daughter LOVED Apologia s Zoology 3 Land Animals of the Sixth Day Much engaging and with varied activities and colorful lapbook style mini books etc. Observing God's worldwatch in the notebooking journal that you actually want to keep as a mom not just notebook papers workbooks filled with rote penciled answers that no one will ever care to look back upon one day And these hands on projects weren t just fluff they served as excellent visuals and study aids all the while being attractive and enjoyable to create Apologia science definitely produces living books Our daughter was BEGGING to do science once we switched over to Apologia and we ve never used any other science publisher since Please understand though I m not discouraging everyone from Abeka materials this particular book just wasn t a good fit for our family and I ve always operated from a traditional textbook approach in our homeschooling I genuinely appreciate the mission and mindset of Abeka 333
