Lesbians, Crutches, \u0026 Suicides: Experiences from a Female in the United States ArmyHave you ever wondered what it might be like to join the military There s a lot recruiters fail to mention Grant s book details the difficulties of Basic Training during the largest recruitment rush in history Suicides were prominent because soldiers were unable to pass the initial PT test that would get them into Basic Training and what most recruiters won t say is that there s a place known as Reception where all soldiers begin their journey Many never make it out.

Some stay for months trying to pass the PT test For them the only way out is to convince the Army that they re too crazy to be a valuable soldieror suicide There was also an entire society of LURD s lesbians until release date that had established firm control within the barracks and were unafraid of the consequences In fact many of them wanted to get caught even if it meant a dishonorable discharge because at least that got them out of the Army After September 11 2001 recruiters worked overtime to get people to join the Army It was a mixed bag people either wanted to join up for the glory or people were afraid of joining because it meant going to war and thus insane sign up bonuses were offered For me I saw it as a chance to better my life maybe get college paid for and see some of the world LESBIANS CRUTCHES AND SUICIDES A MILITARY MEMOIR FROM A UNITED STATES ARMY VETERAN takes a reader into the heart of Basic Training with personal elements of what the experience of becoming a soldier is like Grant s perspective is peppered with personal narrative and letters sent home View the book trailer at youtube. com watch v atBXntfdvKw Excerpt Grant Drill Sergeant Brown bellowed as he appeared at my shoulder his spit splashing my cheek Startled I cursed myself Even before he had screamed my name I knew I made a mistake The rest of the platoon was silent No one moved no one dared even breathe Furious with myself I shifted my grip on my M 16 in preparation Dammit Not again We had just marched three miles to the looming gas chamber and we had already been scuffed up for taking too long lining up our rucksacks And I was partly to blame for that too Being in the last squad of the platoon we had to line up our supplies last and we were never fast enough Not once did we make a formation without getting scuffed up Lesbians Crutches u0026 Suicides Experiences from a Female in the United States Army.
