Kindle once upon a wallflower series Based on the blurb for Once Upon a Wallflower I was expecting something a little on the dark side but really this book is so much fun I love the combination of historical romance and murder mystery It was light fun steamy and quite funny at times It all starts with Mira s uncle owing a debt to Lord Blackwell As payment he gives away her hand in marriage to the lord s oldest son Nicholas Now why does a wealth viscount need a bartered bride Well the whole town believes him a murdered who killed his last three fiancees Luckily Mira doesn t believe the town gossip and after meeting Nicholas and actually quite liking him she sets out to find the real murderer I immediately thought Once Upon a Wallflower was a lot of fun because Mira is just a great character She s essentially been sold off against her will but she takes it in great stride She knows she s not what Society considers beautiful she s a plump redhead with attitude so her marriage prospects aren t many Plus she s taking her cousin s place It turns out Lord Blackwell is expecting the gorgeous blonde and proper Mirabelle Fitzhenry for his son Yes there are two Mirabelle Fitzhenrys Mira our feisty heroine and Bella her less feisty cousin However Nicholas is quite glad to have gotten Mira instead since she actually treats him like a person unlike most women. The wallflowers glad all over I adored Nicholas too He s funny and witty and doesn t really conform to Society s standards He s an artist and a bit of a loner which only fuels the gossip about him Rumor has it he practices black magic and sacrifices young women Ridiculous Once Upon a Wallflower focuses on he and Mira attempting to prove his innocence and flush out the real culprit Nicholas and Mira are a great team working through the incidents logically However Nicholas has a secret that may put a damper on Mira s investigations The mystery was great and totally held my attention There s plenty of scandals revealed along the way I also solved this one before Mira did I felt so smart Once Upon a Wallflower was just a good time Even though I was expecting something dark and sexy I became completely smitten with this adorable mystery There are some steamy scenes but I don t think the romance was the focus at all and that was fine I enjoyed clue hunting with Mira and I loved how no matter what happened she was not deterred from her goal Read of my reviews at Pinkindle Reads Reviews 1622662350 Well This wasn t too terrible I always begin these books with a little trepidation but I was I suppose pleasantly surprised by this one Mira is an interesting character practical and thoughtful self conscious without being a total ninny about it Nicholas is swoon worthy in that devil may care windswept Cornish artist way He s reminiscent of Heathcliff If Heathcliff hadn t been a total asshole The few physical scenes were tastefully done I thought the petting that occurred after Nicholas showed Mira his sketch of her was quite original The only problem I really had was with the general vagueness of the character s personalities Mira deems herself a logical person but she doesn t always employ common sense and there s a serious logic fail toward the end of the book when she starts to doubt Nicholas Her internal rationalization was anything but logical and it made me dislike her a bit Her speech is also a little Stiff Formal Almost as if the author had a really hard time with dialogue This isn t unusual I ve noticed but the interactions between characters seemed wooden and superficial than I m used to Usually people screw up dialogue by overdoing the sentimentality and platitudes but the opposite seemed to rule here The villain became sort of blindingly obvious about halfway through so when Mira and Nicholas finally figured it out and were shocked Well you can guess how much eye rolling I was doing Still despite its issues it was an engaging read and I found myself rooting for Mira and Nicholas and wondering how everything would turn out A pleasant way to pass the time if you re into historical romance with a mystery twist 1622662350 My review contains spoilers and they re mostly my thoughts as I went with the bookWendy Lyn Watson s Once Upon A Wallflower was a pretty good read Having never read anything by her prior to this book I was drawn by the word wallflower I love a good romance where the so called wallflower heroines turn out to be a force to reckon with In that regard I wasn t disappointed cause I could definitely see myself making friends with Mira. Once upon a wallflower kindle free I must mention that this story was not as steamy and little lacking on the romance because Mira spend the majority of it trying to solve the murders The story itself is not that long But I m not complaining Mira and Nicholas s fate was bound together from the first moment which helped them forming an awkward bond out of necessity But that doesn t mean there weren t any beautiful scene between them One would be that scene when Mira goes to Nicholas s tower room to sit for a portrait Mira was already very impressed by his artistic endeavors and flattered that he d ask her to sit for him This time Nicholas with his artist s eyes made it a rather sensual experience for them both There were also heated kisses and caresses Though those didn t go any further I could feel the passion and the attraction. Once upon a wallflowerw book Mirabelle Fitzhenry is on the shelf and left with no prospects her uncle has to pay off his debts and thus Mira the dependent orphan becomes the sacrificial goat so that the other Mirabelle Fitzhenry Belle their own daughter is saved The story of 2 women cousins and similar in age sharing the same name was one of cracking wit that I had a hard time keeping my smiles in. Does emma swan die in once upon a time Nicholas and Mira s love blossoms slowly and Mira comes across as a genuine caring and kind person who sees thru the mask of Nicholas and waits for him to bail out of the engagement Nicholas haunted by nightmares of his mother s suicide is himself charmed by the slip of a girl who doesn t see herself to be anything good but has a heart of a gold trusting him and promising herself to prove that Nicholas is not a murderer The identity of the murderer can be guessed early but it doesn t spoil the fun. Once upon a wallflowerwright In between all the evil family members who are out to gain things for themselves help comes via Mira s maid and Nicholas valet who are charming characters themselves I loved the atmospheric feel of the story with the cliffs and crashing waves it adds to the gothic element of the story This is my first book by this author and surely looking forward to reading 1622662350
