The atom-smasherz lyrics I think Victor Rousseau was a genius who struggled getting his ideas across in his chosen medium His stories always promise great things but he is limited by his use of English language I don t know if this limitation was innate or purposeful It seems Rousseau had a hard time being taken seriously as a writer He wrote several non fantasy novels trying to break out into haute literature but had difficulty finding a publisher and his books were not well received He even got into trouble for libel with the first of these novels because he used his brother as a model for one of the characters So he began selling science fiction adventures to pulps and that is where he found his niche Yet as much of a staple as heis name has become in the genre I always have found his work to be a bit clunky My favorite of his so far as been The Sea Demons which was really quite good and therefore I am curious if his writing was limited because he felt he had to dumb down his prose for the pulp market I may have to check out one of his unsuccessful non sci fi dramas to see what I think.
