Lady of the woods song Fantastic journey with a young woman and the larger than life characters in this story Truly enjoyed it 9780980084269 I have been following the evolution of author Milton J Davis for a number of years now and it pleases me to say that with Woman Of The Woods Davis is climbing to the pinnacle of his considerable storytelling powers He is truly the dawning heart of Sword and Soul building on the powerful legacy created by master Charles Saunders Davis creates a world complete conjuring images of Africa full of magic and mysticism courage and adventure warriors and monsters Uhuru is a world apart but as with other masters of the Sword and Sorcery genre we see our world in what Davis has crafted The continent of Uhuru comes alive we walk the lands of Adamusola In his skilled hands the imagery leaps from the page and we walk the grasslands feel the breeze hear the hyenas hackle and the shumbas roar We hear see and feel the people of Adamusola live as well as die. Women of the woods meaning Sadatina is a woman who is loved beyond measure but forbidden her very existence It is love that allows her to live the love of a mother It is the love of family that allows her to thrive It is the love for one other that allows her to realize her considerable gifts and the strength she alone possesses It is the love for her people that makes her a leader among elite warriors and in the last it is love for all the people of this fabled land that lends her the strength to stand against the cycle of violence and the evil that drives it I was so taken by Sadatina and her struggle that I lost myself in Davis s words lost in his world realizing in my mind the full scope of the majesty that is Uhuru the people of Adamusola the gods that guide humankind and the seemingly insurmountable evil against which they must stand Woman Of The Woods is Davis at his finest and Davis at his finest is Sword and Sorcery at its best which is why it is so very much Sword and Soul. Women of the woods retreat S Brown 9780980084269 Exciting very visual and fast paced nothing wasted no filler However it did feel as though this could have been two books It starts as a bit of a Coming of Age story with lots of interesting characters introduced It then time jumps so it feels as if there s a lot missing that would have been used to explore how the main character Sadatina becomes the adult we rather abruptly meet midway through the book I m not a fan of The Chosen One trope with a mystical tie to a god religion order but this is such an enjoyable read it was something that didn t make me stop reading 9780980084269 Remarkable A richly thought out world with an impressively rich lore and culture I found myself pulled in completely and thoroughly enjoyed the rollicking spectacles of the battles small and large Sadatina is a fascinating character who is equal parts capable and vulnerable and I was such a big fan of how she handled everything the narrative threw at her. Lady of the woods song A great story and one of the best works from MVmedia that I ve yet read 9780980084269 Dope fiction from African woman s perspective Great read for anybody interests in non white female centered characters 9780980084269 I loved this book I read it on my kindle though and it had a lot of spelling errors which was disappointing However the story line was really good and the characters were well developed I wish there was romance though that she ended up having romantic love and not only familial love Though I understand that her sacrifice was for women after her I am thrilled to have a Black heroine well many heroines really And Sadatina was fierce 9780980084269 Do you like Sword and Sandals themed epics that take place in lush locals and and exotic places The kind of worlds that and Robert E Howard had only begun to explore I love these kinds of stories as much as I do a far flung SF novel An unusual twist on this novel is that the protagonists are members of an elite order of female warriors known as the Shofa As if that were not enough it also is a Sword and Soul fantasy novel meaning that the setting and characters are part of an alternative version of pre colonial Africa and the larger Earth that surrounds it It is very cool to see these untold stories come to life In the society focused on in the book the men do play a key role in both war and peace so this is not a typical Story The Shofa are very very good at what they do and the fighting scenes were fluid and kinetic Beyond that the plot and characterization are great You get a good feel for the social order of this society the relationships between characters the never ending struggle with faith and other human touches that enable us to really sympathize with the characters I especially enjoyed the first half of the story when we saw the origin story of the main character The book held together well to it s conclusion This is just me but I d have liked details about the settings the smells food and sights of Adamusola and Uhuru I do realize that this is an offshoot from his Meji series so some of that deeper world exploration may have already happened there Looking forward to reading of Davis works in the future 9780980084269 Woman of the Woods is subtitled A Sword and Soul Epic and it truly is epic as well as a great example of Sword and Soul Milton Davis takes the Sword and Sorcery genre and centers it in Africa with a strong woman protagonist and he writes with a high literary quality that makes the novel feel like a legend The Audible narrator Darla Middlebrook has a rich voice that adds to the enjoyment The action scenes and sorcery magic elements kick into full gear in the last third of the novel Highly recommended 9780980084269 This novel is my first foray into the Sword and Soul genre It won t be my last Sadatina is a young woman never quite sure of her place in youth who eventually accepts her destiny among the Shosa the hardy warriors and demon hunters of the tale As you read the story will also add some perspective from the side of the demons god and his minions as well as other major players in Davis world I especially liked how the warriors and their foes alike had layers and nuance while striving for their goals The best reads are the ones where the lines between good and evil start to blur and you ll find that here I recommend this and look forward to reading of this author s work 9780980084269 Generally action novels tend to get and exciting as they progress toward their climax Somehow Woman of the Woods manages to get slower and boring the further along it gets If you are looking for African sword and sorcery Imaro is still the gold standard 9780980084269
