Stella's starliners song lyrics And now the mom is gone and it s dad making the pancakesWhat happened to mom We have read the book every night for a week and laughed Each time we add new lines The weasels get caustic Dad looks drunker One night the children decided Stumpy has a lispA thillionaire The next day they decided the bunnies are actually retirees Grace and Stumpy makes sense for little old bunnies than young ones Who knows It s an odd story and my odd children are making it even odder and laughable On the book jacket it says Rosemary Wells has written 120 books for children Maybe she should have stopped at 119 Hardcover Stella has an airstream trailer Reminds me of my littlest one Hardcover book caught my eye the first time by the tag on its back East.

Stella's starliner book pdf Wells grew up in Red Bank New Jersey 1 She is the daughter of Helen Bamberger site_link This gets into class and poverty shaming which I don t see that often For that I think it is very helpful The ending does include parental comforting and acceptance of other friends but it also involves the trailer being moved away to another location which is not always practical There probably need to be books on the topic The writing is nonetheless good and the star theme is well illustrated with some nods to Van Gogh Hardcover So if bullies tease you the solution is to move several states away Hardcover My children and I have thoroughly enjoyed this weird book but not for the right reasons Taken at face value we think the moral of the story is If bullies tease you and make you feel bad about where you live the only way to make it better is to move away Far away To Florida I brought Stella s Starliner home from the library because I adore Rosemary Wells and her charming characters and expressive animal illustrations When it comes to the illustrations this book does not disappoint there are some amazing night scenes with brilliant silver stars and comets that are simply lovely The story however leaves something to be desired Stella is a sweet little fox who lives in a silver trailer with her mom They are in a rural mountainous area they go to a market where foxes play fiddles and a book mobile is how they get their library books Kudos to Wells for including this library detail Stella s dad only comes home home on the weekends He looks drunk as he gets out of his truck It says he Gives her mom all the money in his pockets My kids pointed out that illustrations of dad s overalls don t actually include any pockets I wonder how they are paying the grocery bills And then the WEASELS came This is how my son says it High pitched emphasis on weasels So Stella loves her little life until a band of weasels weasels ALWAYS get a bad rap show up and tell her she lives in a tin can and she must be poor And truly whether they are weasels or humans big kids can be really cruel This stings her heart like the stings of bees a beautiful line about how bullying makes you feel in an otherwise convoluted story Late that night she tells her mother about how the bullies hurt her feelings and her mom tells her to look out the window Daddy is flying the Starliner trailer through the Milky Way So now I ve got questions I m wondering is this just a metaphor No they are actually flying the trailer in the sky across the Milky Way to towns unknown And are you telling my kids the only way to be happy when you get bullied is to move away When did Dad come home anyway And why are they cutting out of town in the middle of the night Our theory is Dad got fired from his migrant farmer construction job and now they can t pay the rent so they need to leave before the landlord catches them Or maybe he s one of those gypsies who does shoddy paint jobs for old people and they had to skip town before the law came and got them At this point the book is beyond weird Maybe it s like the children s book in Elf where the publisher forgot to put in a few pages so the story makes no sense In the morning West home is best i really like the stories that describe family lives they are always good not only for the kids also as great reading materials for whole family reading Stella s Starliner is one of them I read family love and friendship from the book Author showed as a pretty landscape by her amazing drawing that full of childishness and playfulness the sentences and pictures work together very well close to our family live Some of pictures just like decorative pictures we can see in our own houses some talks between Stella and Mom just like real talks that between us and our mom Hardcover

Normally I love stories with animals as the characters but there something strange about a fox living in a trailer house that I could not get over I think that because this book made it seem like there was nothing unusual about a family of foxes living in a trailer I was less able to enjoy the story The book is about a fox named Stella who lives with her family in their silver trailer house called the Starliner When a band of weasels criticize Stella s home calling it a tin can Stella is sad Stella s mother comforts her by telling her to look at the stars outside and the next morning the house has moved to a tropical area In their new location their neighbors tell Stella her silver house is really special and must cost a lot of money While the story was sweet and showed that there is no need to be embarrassed about where you live and that everyone has different opinions I think the ending was unsatisfying the resolution was simply to move I think readers who relate to Stella s embarrassment and sadness when her home is criticized will be disappointed to see that the solution in the book is to move while they do not have that option The illustrations in the book are very detailed and I especially enjoyed the textural element on the animals that created fur However I was not fond of the tiny white dot texture in some areas of the illustrations I thought these were distracting and detracted from anything else on the page While it is a good concept the resolution of this book left me wanting Hardcover Strange The illustrations are classic Rosemary Wells but the story is odd On one hand it s an effective lesson that it s not the size or shape that makes a home it s the love and care it contains On the other when bullying hurts Stella the response is to move in the middle of the night to somewhere where the neighbors aren t mean So run away from your problems then That doesn t seem right It could be coincidence and the relocation is a way to show us the migrant experience But the timing after the bullying incident is too convenient The message is muddled here and it s the unsettled confusion that stays with you Hardcover I don t usually review the picture books I read to my youngest but oh how I adore Rosemary Wells And this book I adore almost than any of her others As other reviewers have pointed out it is an odd story sweet little Stella gets verbally bullied by a band of weasels about her RV style home and begins to doubt its up to that point awesomeness And then Stella s family moves in the night. Stella's Starliner epubor Rather than interpret the story as a message to run when you confront opposition or to value what you have through the opinions of others I thought Wells was writing for our large migrant worker population who often travel from place to place in search of jobs And I thought it was especially sweet and sensitive that she chose a marginalized audience to write a story about. Stella's starliner Nonetheless it remains a weird little story that has snuggled itself up in my heart Hardcover Dang it This is super cute and portrays a happy family that lives in a trailer so so rare and I wanted so much to like it BUT I ve been looking at a lot about picture books that feature working class and low income children and one of the things I have to think about it whether or not the book shows a magical fix usually something that it not plausible for most people.
