Endearing protagonists and colorful and funny secondary characters you care about from page one The writing seems to flow very easily and naturally This was a good story until it quickly became irresistible The fact that the author used a lot of Latin terms is a plus and it gives the story an authentic historical feel To add a glossary was a very good and useful idea Reading Ms Ross s work made me feel as though I had been transported to the Gaul and Britannia of those troubled and perilous times I highly recommend her first novel The Eagles Wing Please leave comments on Josie s 4 sweet pea review at When Lucius accompanies his friend Flavius to the slave market the last thing he expects to find is a new body slave.

I am a retired cataloguer a retired Media and Fantasy fan from the days of classic Star Trek onwards a mostly retired American Civil War re enactor and current minder of two Russian Blue ladies also retired I have a long time interest in history mostly ancient and classical but venture into the realms of the medieval world except for the unnecessary Tudors Since retiring I have taken up patchwork gardening and village activities being well known for being unable to resist buying perennials I would like to read historicals set in this age The Eagles Wing A solid and wonderful historical story The romance is slow building there s no excessive drama angst the sex scenes fade to black there re many interesting characters and all loose ends are tied neatly This is a long novel worth reading The Eagles Wing I can t understand why this book doesn t have ratings Well written and obviously thoroughly researched it tells the story of Romanised Gaul Lucius a soldier in the Roman Army his impluse purchase of a new slave and their path from distrust through friendship to love. Do eagles have white wing tips It was a pleasure to watch the main protagonists slowly learn how to interact with each other with time and patience When somebody has been repeatedly abused left with physical and emotional scars and has stopped hoping to be able to mend oneself is the most difficult thing to endeavor Cine Ross here does a fantastic job in rebuilding Keret s trust and giving him hope again and you cannot but believe in it He s as strong as Lucius is kind The author has created very lively and believable settings but one look into a pair of startling violet eyes is all it takes for Lucius to become the new owner of a young half starved barbarian slave Keret has no reason to trust Lucius since his enslavement he s been maltreated raped forced into prostitution and whipped to within an inch of his life and he is expecting the same treatment from the young Roman officer who now owns him As Keret slowly responds to his strange almost gentle new master Lucius is surprised to find his new slave is a learned man he had trained to be a doctor before his capture by the rampaging Roman Army.
