A close to the bone short autobiography by the late Rick Hautala what made him tick what drove him what haunted him A must for Hautala fans 124 I love this little book I have read it several times 124 Rick Hautla s written word about his writing life and the writing life in general I found inspiring and down to earth His writing schedules his ups and downs his experiences are told with simple prose and at the same time enthusiastic Raw advice served up to my delight An excellent story and with great insight into the world of a writer and he was a great raconteur Left us too young he had so much to tell By the way his take on ensuring nightmares and dreams having a banana or tuna fish before bed really works I find myself going sleep on any empty stomach a non eventful sleep but with certain foods in your belly prepare for mindful adventures when you succumb to sleep 124 When I was in my early teens I discovered Robert R McCammon As soon as I finished one of his books I would go that day and pick up another by him When I ran out of books by McCammon I branched out to another author and began the same pattern of obsession That author was Rick Hautala I was always impressed with the author s writing character development and the quiet horror sensibilities he had I met him in person once at a convention in Maryland many years ago and he was as nice and pleasant a person as one could hope for I was saddened to hear of his recent passing and proud to have a near complete collection of all his titles including his A.
