Book her grace in disgrace pdf

I really enjoyed this book the characters were well developed and likeable I always enjoy historical fiction so this satisfied my readers taste buds as it stayed fairly accurate for the times as far as culture is concerned I find that I can be critical when it comes to this but I really found nothing to complain about with this author Isobel was stuck in a loveless marriage for 6 years because she married for status and money When her husband dies and the will is read she finds that the marriage was never actually valid and she is now the talk of the Ton a term used for the rich and powerful Instead of inheriting a hefty sum of money to live comfortably on in her widowhood she is cast off from good society and branded as damaged Isobel now has to decide whether to wallow in her situation or make amends with old friends she put aside for her marriage This story shows growth in the characters and the underlying message was really great I felt the ending was a bit rushed as if the author was trying to wrap up the story There were a couple parts near the end that were lacking the same level of detail and description as the rest of the book contained Otherwise I would recommend this book absolutely Paperback Loved it it s written very well and has a lot of substance it s evident that the author knows a lot about the types of places and people that she incorporated into here book it s very detailed and it does a good job of expressing the themes through a very creative and captivating writing style. Her grace in disgraceu you The characters are great they all actually seem like real people they aren t plain or boring whatsoever I liked some and disliked others and I think that makes up a good book when I can actually have positive AND negative connotations towards different characters. Her grace in disgrace novel Overall I liked it very much and I will definitely be looking out for future releases I could picture myself reading this over again once I get some free time it did a good job of keeping me hooked it early in the story and the content isn t anything that can get boring especially due to the way it is written Paperback This will be a difficult book to review since I am not a writer myself and I would have to be one to come up with an adequate description of just how good this book is I almost didn t bother downloading it thinking it looked like just another insipid pseudo Austen regency romance about a heroine unjustly cut by the cruel ton until rescued by the right hero blah blah but it was so much It is not just about Her Grace or Disgrace but about living life with real grace extended to all whose lives we touch It was not just an imitation of Austen s Emma but a book Austen herself could have written not because of imitating Austen s writing style which Harbaugh doesn t she has one all her own but because of sharing Austen s innate sense of human frailties and foibles and her special ability to realistically bring about growth in characters whom others would consider too old and set in their foolish ways to grow If there was one criticism of this book it was the number of characters but since even the secondary and peripheral characters were as richly drawn as the main protagonists they each added their fair share to the story Paperback My first and last thoughts on this novel Could you just imagine Harbaugh takes a situation that would be almost unimaginable today and sets it back a few hundred years to create a scandal to outweigh all scandals All the while she keeps her story firmly and correctly planted in the time period in question Not only are Harbaugh s descriptions vivid and picturesque but they also transport you back in time Her entire writing style does this By the end of the story I felt like I d travelled through time and back Harbaugh s characters develop a will they won t they type of romance with a big twist Not only does it draw many of these characters together as than blood kin but it also defines who some of these characters are Since the characters are so firmly planted in their time period the way that they approach marriage is key to their personalities and upbringing Harbaugh doesn t stop there with her character development however Each character is individually developed to suit their role in the story and to further the storyline As a reader you won t love everyone Some you may well despise I know I did This all adds to the realism and romanticism of this phenomenal tale. Her grace in disgrace novel Overall this was a brilliant escape from modern day reality and I couldn t put it down It was a heart warming tale that left me smiling and wanting I wouldn t hesitate to recommend it to anyone Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review Paperback Imagine Isobel Kennilworth Aiken Duchess of Warwick to learn at the reading of the will of what she thought was her deceased husband and to discover that he had a former wife and even a son She is not the legal wife and Reginald s brother Charles will not be the next Duke The shock of the news is severe enough but the gossip of the ton is even worse Now she is just Miss Isobel Kennilworth her grace in disgrace No one offers her sympathy or even understanding she is now the other woman and shunned Andrew Stafford a former vicar now Lord Saybrooke is a second son and has been forced into the role of Viscount after the sudden death of his older brother who had never married so there was never an heir The plot of the story covers the lives of both Isobel and Andrew their childhood friendship and affections for each other Dealing with society and its protocol all the while their constant t te t te on forgiveness Isobel proves to be an unyielding woman one who made some foolish mistakes as a young lady many set into motion by her own father but is doing her best to rectify some of those mistakes She is one who has a way with others and decides to help several widowed ladies The characters in this story are strong colorful and not without faults The story has mystery and suspense with lots of twist and turns It is an excellent beginning to a series Paperback Her Grace in DisgraceOkay I admit it I am an anglophile And while I m in the confessing mood I ll also admit that I devour Regency Romance novels Anyone who knows me knows that I am a no nonsense independent type with a barely discernible feminine side But I am a sucker for the understated romance the English stiff upper lip and the snappy dialogue ala Jane Austen No overt sex no bodice ripping just a good clean story with great dialogue with an undercurrent of passion If there is a duke or duchess or even a commoner a strong female heroine an equally strong but not overbearing male hero and the chance of some romantic entanglements I m all for it I like it so much I decided to write a traditional regency romance novel myself Her Grace in D Okay I admit it I am an anglophile And while I m in the confessing mood I ll also admit that I devour Regency Romance novels Anyone who knows me knows that I am a no nonsense independent type with a barely discernible feminine side But I am a sucker for the understated romance the English stiff upper lip and the snappy dialogue ala Jane Austen No overt sex no bodice ripping just a good clean story with great dialogue with an undercurrent of passion If there is a duke or duchess or even a commoner a strong female heroine an equally strong but not overbearing male hero and the chance of some romantic entanglements I m all for it I like it so much I decided to write a traditional regency romance novel myself Her Grace in Disgraceand enjoyed every minute of it Hope you enjoy it too site_link Reginald Aiken Duke of Warwick is dead and his young widow is not grievinguntil the will is read Isobel Kennilworth Aiken Duchess of Warwick spent 6 years of her young life in a loveless marriage Now at the age of 24 Isobel is a widow As Isobel awaits the reading of her late husband s last will and testament she feels no grief but in fact is quite hopeful She is eager to start her life anew But as the droning of the solicitor s voice washes over her detailing the bequests to various servants and family members a shock awaits her The other woman was not his mistress but his lawfully wedded wife and together they had a son Six year old Reggie was now the Duke of Warwick displacing Reginald s brother Charles There is a collective gasp as the revelation is made that instantly displaces Isobel and Charles and dashes their hopes for the future Isobel must indeed start anew but not as a titled influential and wealthy widow but as plain Miss Kennilworth tainted by scandal Can she get past the disgrace and humiliation she has endured and fight her way back into society Will she find love again with her childhood sweetheart Andrew Stafford former vicar now Lord Saybrooke Or perhaps she will rekindle the flame with Jeremy Ingles Lord Westcott who had caught her fancy at her come out six years earlier but had not been ready to be leg shackled But before Isobel can find true love she must come to grips with her past mistakes and the people she has hurt along the way She must discover who she is without the title of duchess to her name Her Grace in DisgraceSNS Rating 4. Her grace in disgrace novel Until the reading of the will establishes that her marriage was never legal and the Duke was married prior to their wedding and also left an heir It was horrible to see that in spite of her not having any knowledge of her husbands misdeed she was the one to take the brunt of the backlash shunned by the peerage she became Her Grace in Disgrace. Epub her grace in disgrace pdf Andrew her childhood friend and once romantic interest as not seen her since she rejected his proposal all those years ago in favour of marrying for a better title that a Vicar s wife Hears of her problem and calls on her realising that he still holds the same feeling for her that he once did but now his situation is reversed and he has Titles responsibility and wealth and any possibilities of them becoming what he always wanted them to be are dashed by the expectations of Society. Her grace in disgracer reddit I loved Isobel s character even if times she was a little manipulative and selfish That said Andrew did seem to judgemental and preach a little to much for my liking must have been the Vicar coming out in him but she stood up to him threw things at him and decided that it was better to not see each other rather than continue with their tempestuous relationship Which didn t make either of them very happy. Her grace in disgraces statue it was nice to see Isobel eventually grow up and try to right the wrongs she had made in the past and find unlikely support from the women she had damaged the most by her actions. Her grace in disgrace novel This was a really nicely written historical piece that makes me very glad not to have lived in those times and I enjoyed the journey Very Jane Austin where you can lose yourself in Balls house parties afternoon teas and polite manners I want a high tea now Really really enjoyed it Well done Claudia Paperback I thoroughly enjoyed Her Grace in Disgrace I pretty much finished it in one day reading into the early morning hours relishing each moment It took me to another time and place I truly cared for the characters and couldn t wait to see how things would turn out Dealt an incredible blow at the beginning of the book Isobel Kennilworth is thrown into a life she never expected Disgraced by her former husband she is shunned by polite society So much of the expectations of that day were so constraining and that is shown very clearly in this story Marrying for love it seems was a luxury to those whose families were in monetary trouble The addition of Isobel s aunt Lady Whitcomb was a great decision in the story as she added so many moments of humor and wisdom Truly the list of characters in the story is too long for me to really go into but I loved them all In one scene Lord Saybrooke who had been Isobel s childhood friend states bluntly to Lady Whitcomb that people change Do we asked Lady Whitcomb Of course we grow older and are affected by circumstances good and bad Hopefully we mature a little But no Lord Saybrooke I do not think we change who we essentially are We simply learn to wear masks that protect us from our own vulnerability and present a face that society wants to see We call it our duty but it is really a means of hiding our true selves in order to pass muster Her response held true wisdom and reflects what that society and even our own today does to people Claudia Harbaugh has done a wonderful job of writing a romance that has depth to it Although Isobel finds herelf in a terrible situation the book has her take a hard look at her part in where she has landed in life She is forced to see things in herself she doesn t want to see The story illustrates so beautifully the concept of forgiveness and grace and how to move forward when life hits you in the stomach Once again it is Lady Whitcomb bringing some great advice to Isobel that we all could use You are sick with anguish and guilt from staring too long at the road you have already traveled You must look ahead So often we become anchored to our past and cannot fully live in the present Another piece of advice given to Lord Saybrooke by a vicar friend of his was also hit me as profound Saybrooke is trying to decide what to throw his life into as far as charitable work Here is the reply Andrew my boy Simeon gave Saybrooke a fatherly smile One does not pick out a life s work as if you were buying a horse at Tattersalls Leave it in God s hands It will find you Her Grace in Disgrace is a lovely story that I thoroughly enjoyed Everything is set up for a sequel and I am looking forward to it If you re looking to travel to another time and place Her Grace in Disgrace is a great choice A very enjoyable read I was given a free copy of Her Grace in Disgrace to review Paperback If you re looking for something fast moving and action filled then I do not recommend this book to you It moves at the speed of a Jane Austen novel If you re looking for a children s fairy tale romance I also do not recommend this book It is pretty clean no language no sex open or closed door nothing supernatural and without a specific religious bent although it does contain some Biblical allusions and references This review does not contain outright spoilers However it does give indications of how the story goes. Her grace in disgracen novel pdf Most of the characters are most human and fallible The one who isn t is not an Anglican This will no doubt sound a bit racist to at least some readers of this review but I have to say that because she is Hispanic specifically a Spaniard I find her unfailing kindness willingness to overlook the faults of others and extraordinarily forgiving and generous spirit easier to swallow based on the many years I have spent involved in various Hispanic communities To some she might have come across as saintly to me it seemed that she could have had many faults without having any that the story brought to light Most of the other characters are dynamic to varying degrees Two breathtakingly but not entirely unbelievably reform the reformation of one of which I m assuming will be much better showcased in a sequel than it is in this book and others reform to lesser degrees As I read I kept feeling the impossibility of such a book having been written in 1817 not because I feel that the mentality represented couldn t have existed privately or individually but because I feel that it couldn t have existed collectively with all the social taboos of the day. Her grace in disgrace historical fiction reddit I found the social reform represented in it inspiring and arising fairly naturally the characters realistic than is typical of a novel and very much to my taste I saw one review complaining that the hero wasn t nice or likable That wasn t how I felt about him at all I concede that he was not in the beginning very nice to the heroine but then I felt that at the time she got exactly the kind of treatment her conduct deserved To make him not very nice while admittedly not soothing the feelings of somebody who was in distress was to make him believable I also felt that the fact that they could act that way toward each other and later resolve their differences and misunderstandings was very promising for their ability to create their own happily ever after I felt that he contrasted very favorably with his rival who WAS nice and pleasant to the heroine at a time when she was looking to be soothed so it is most understandable that she falls for him Nevertheless she is forced to see the folly of putting too much stock in another person being nice to you He had motives that she once she grasped them also understandably found unpalatable and he did not reform although he forced the hero to take a good look at his own motives and intentions to good effect. Epub her grace in disgrace free To date there is no sequel to this book I look forward to a sequel not because of any particular cliffhangers the story is fairly self contained but because I enjoyed it and would like it to keep going I also appreciate the fact that the author wants to make this book the best it can be and still accepts feedback about it I hope you have found this review helpful Paperback This traditional Regency from first time author Claudia Harbaugh shows a lot of promise Her writing style is restrained and displays an elegance reminiscent of Heyer although sadly without so much of the wit and sharply observed social comment. Her grace in disgraces statue The story concerns Isobel Kenilworth Duchess of Wawrick who discovers at the reading of her late husband s will that she was not his wife at all as he had a wife at the time of their marriage Isobel is naturally shocked and dismayed not because she had had any love for her husband but because of the scandal which will see her cast out from much of polite society and because it means she will no longer have access to her late husband s wealth and property Her long time friend and former sweetheart Andrew Stafford Viscount Saybrooke is the one person who continues to associate with her once the scandal had broken but their relationship is strained Andrew is a former clergyman who had to abandon his calling when he unexpectedly inherited his brother s title and responsibilities and I have to say that he frequently comes across as somewhat priggish and condescending While Isobel s motives for refusing him in order to land herself a rich husband were certainly mercenary and her methods in attaining said husband were at best underhanded Saybrooke s self righteous manner is unhelpful as all it does is cause Isobel s hackles to rise and increase her unwillingness to make any changes in her attitude and behaviour or to admit to herself that she never stopped loving him. Her grace in disgraces synonym Isobel does not come across as an especially likeable young woman in the first part of the book She trapped her husband into marriage and got what she wanted social position fortune and a man who would leave her alone As a result the past six years have changed her for the worse she has become calculating and rather cold and her thoughts following Warwick s death are filled with rage and self pity. Her grace in disgraces synonym She is forced to leave her former home and retire to a smaller house in Bloomsbury in Woburn Place where she lives with her perspicacious aunt Lady Whitcomb Lady Whitcomb is of the opinion that Isobel is too much occupied with the past and needs to move forward and get on with her life but in order to do that Isobel is going to have to face up to some hard truths something she is not yet ready to do. Her grace in disgrace historical fiction pdf In some ways Isobel reminded me a little of Jane Austen s Emma a character whom no one but myself will much like because she is managing manipulative and frequently blind to her own best interests But she also shows signs of having a ruthless streak which Emma does not possess which serves to make Isobel a less attractive character while at the same time making the fact that she manages to overcome it in the end of an achievement in terms of her character development And later I was reminded of another Austen heroine because of Isobel s persistence in attaching herself to a young man whose designs upon her turn out to be less than honorable. Epub her grace in disgrace free Following this betrayal and subsequent gossip Isobel begins to take a long hard look at herself and finally decides that she wants to make a change in her life I did feel that Isobel s literally overnight transformation from wronged woman to cheerful do gooder was rather fast but I can accept that having decided to make a change she would want to get on with it as soon as possible The second half of the book became suddenly peppered with half a dozen secondary characters many of whom are clearly destined to feature in future titles in the Widows of Wouburn Place series On the positive side the addition of these characters and events involving them led to a welcome change of pace in the story But as a result it gave the book an unbalanced feel overall. Her grace in disgrace novel The romance in this story seems to me to be almost an afterthought as the hero is relegated to the sidelines for the bulk of the story and is sadly underdeveloped Because Saybrooke and Isobel had been romantically involved years earlier there is no need for introductions but even in a story which features a second chance relationship the romance needs to progress and the two characters need to rediscover each other in ways which they had not perhaps done in their youth Unfortunately that doesn t happen in this story There is no romantic tension between the couple and the few kisses they share on the page are somewhat passionless. Her grace in disgrace historical fiction reddit Isobel is by far the most well developed character in the book so what we have is essentially the story young woman who has lost her way coming to terms with her mistakes and then making herself a new life There are elements of that in Saybrooke s story too he has to accept that his previous life has perhaps made him too likely to proselytize and that even though his calling discouraged such a thing that he is often too quick to judge others I can t remember if this was billed as an Inspirational romance but Saybrooke s former profession allows for several quotations from scripture and the odd invocation of the almighty. Epub her grace in disgrace Ms Harbaugh s use of language and her writing style are good for the most part although I feel that the novel needed tightening up and perhaps some judicious pruning and the pacing in the first half of the book left something to be desired There are sudden changes of POV especially in the earlier part of the story which are jarring and unnecessary In one scene for example we re in Isobel s head when suddenly we switch to her maid s POV for a couple of paragraphs and then back to Isobel There were also instances of telling rather than showing such as when Serena Parrish is telling Sophia the story of her disgrace The whole thing is told in the narrative which slows the story down and is quite frankly rather dull to read. Her grace in disgracer reddit As I said at the beginning I think Ms Harbaugh shows definite potential as a writer of traditional regencies but I think Her Grace in Disgrace falls far short in the romance department Perhaps some stringent editing in future would also help to tighten up on those areas I ve mentioned as regards pacing and balance Paperback I don t know that this is a book I d read again but I enjoyed it the first time around This book surprised me because I started reading it expecting it to be about a woman who is betrayed by her horrible husband from beyond the grave and the story of how she puts herself back together again And while this is the basic plot of the story the heroine is by no means a victim and the horrible husband is by no means a villain This is an intriguing book that manages to have no real true villain but mostly a cast of very flawed realistic people who cause their own heartaches. Her grace in disgrace novel So often these historical romances manage to have no depth of character to them The villains are always over the top dastardly n ere do wells In this story the main characters all have a bit of villain in them which made the story fascinating to me. Her grace in disgracer review It is hard to really explain without giving away a whole lot of spoilers but the heroine is someone who has allowed herself to be twisted by the machinations of society In the beginning I found her really unlikable because she wasn t particularly nice and very devious but as the story unfolds and you get to know her better you see her sympathetically Especially as she begins to grow as a person and rediscover herself as something other than as marriage bait. Kindle her grace in disgrace pdf The hero though a good and honorable man is someone who gets blinded by jealousy and is a bit self righteous at times His relationship with the heroine is very Mr Knightly and Emma from Jane Austen s Emma in that he s always needling the heroine and judging her far harsher than he should It s definitely a different type of love story and I would say that this book leans towards a character study than a romance In fact the romance aspect of it was my least favorite part simply because I couldn t identify with the relationship between the hero and heroine I kept wondering what they saw in each other when they couldn t seem to do anything than fight I would have liked to see it developed a little . Her grace in disgracen novel I really liked the development of the deceased husband Though he doesn t have a single moment on the page as he is dead throughout the whole book he is very much a character in the story and has a major role in the book The author does a fabulous job at turning him from a villain to simply lying jerk to an enigma and then into a sympathetic human Though he doesn t have a character arc since he s not technically in the story he does have character development as the heroine and the bro in law someone else who was majorly hurt by the husband s will get to know who he was posthumously If you re looking for a romance this is probably not the story for you If you re looking for something with a clear villain and a shining hero and heroine this is not the story for you But if you re looking for a character study about people who are human and make mistakes and learn and grow and regress at times then this is the story for you. Her grace in disgrace novel UPDATE So I just sat down and reread this one because I ve been going through some of the historical romances I read and I would have to say that I enjoyed this book the 2nd time around It still isn t one of my favorite romances and I would say that it drags a little at the beginning but it s got an interesting premise and plot I wouldn t say it s a clear romance and I wouldn t say that I really got into the hero and heroine s love story but there s a lot that goes in the book that is engaging and interesting Paperback
