Always coming home fantasy football team My new book is By Firelight A Guide to Speculative Fiction Before 1900 available at site_link smashwords and at site_link My other books include a short story titled site_link Always Coming Home and a chapbook of poetry titled site_link Sotto Voce I ve also had a short story and various poetry published in small press periodicals site_link A year after her return home to Wisconsin Melissa is alone again Life is good She has good friends a bit of land in a quiet place and a job she likes Her family is far enough away they don t intrude One night as she s chasing what she thinks might be a trespassing raccoon a childhood ghost reappears The same night a wandering boyfriend returns claiming to be reformed As she tries to walk in two worlds Melissa is in neither Always Coming HomeShort stories are hard for me to rate and review obviously lacking the longterm relationship with the characters I got this story through first reads and thought I would give it a try The story offers a little glimpse at a relationship that is never quite right and a girl who holds on anyways regardless of his coming and goings All the while she s also holding onto her childhood playmate of the mystical nature But since I m of a novel kinda girl I cannot help but wish it was longer this wish to know and wonder about the details makes this a frusteratingly good short story Fantasy Paranormal Poetry Goodreads First Reads Giveaway As someone else pointed out I wish this were a novel Besides it being on the short side there are many qualities that make this a great read The two main human characters were very well developed the story held me at each and every word it was very descriptive and I liked that we were left wondering at the end Perhaps this could be a prologue for that novel Although there weren t very many I wasn t a fan of the religious references I felt that they didn t really push the story forward in any way to justify them being there All in all I recommend this story Thank you Denise for the pleasure of this lovely read Fantasy Paranormal Poetry So we meet Melissa a middle aged newly divorced woman a year after she has moved back to Wisconsin to own and manage a small group of cabins that are lakeside She leads a solitary life with Tishpak a grey Irish Wolfhound Her on again off again boyfriend Bear also joins the story strolling in stealing her heart with his rugged good looks Melissa also has an imaginary friend well of sorts she never speaks to him he never speaks to her but he is there when she walks through the woods just at the edge of her vision The Willowman And maybe he is real maybe there is to this Willowman than she will let herself believe. Keep coming home to you I enjoyed this short story even though it is only 26 pages you get to know the main character very well even though she seems a bit cynical when it comes to somethings you can tell she is a romantic at heart Linking the Willowman to her childhood through to her present stage in life is wonderful and nostalgic The climax of the story made me want to cry for joy because I know who the Willowman represents to me. Always coming home fantasy novel Not only does it creat whole characters as human as posible everyone has has a loved one who isn t playing life smartly a partner friend family member or even yourself it also even takes time to add a different narrative level giving out occasional fantasy horror moments I find this little detail amazing and so enjoyable especially when you take into account it has been acheived in barely 25 pages long Wonderful read with short stories like these there is no way to lose even if you don t like it which I doubt. I was provided a free copy from the Goodreads First Reads program in exchange for a free unbiased review Not too bad of a story but I think I would have liked Not enough background and didn t seem to have a discernible middle to the story Even short stories should have a beginning middle and end Fantasy Paranormal Poetry Longrie writes with style Longrie s tale of a woman whose idyllic life is turned upside down by the return of an old boyfriend and the mysterious touch of a supernatural power drew me in I could feel Melissa s struggle to find a way to make life come together in a way that would give her both of the worlds she wanted so badly Believable and interesting characters an interesting plot good writing Fantasy Paranormal Poetry Much to short for me to get my teeth into I would like to have about 400 pages of these characters Welll developed and left me wanting Fantasy Paranormal Poetry Too short to really get into the story.
