Want to get creative ideas for making your garden a peaceful refuge I was surprised to see how many ideas in this book are new to me I expected a gorgeous book and Heaven is a Garden is that and The author is a landscape designer who shares ideas that are original and gave me ideas for my own garden Two of many suggestions she shares is how to create a cathedral of trees and how to carve a word or design into a soft stone to enhance your garden s beauty The water in the gardens of Innisfree and how its designer plays with the sounds of water will inspire you On page one Johnson writes A heavenly garden stills the world and holds you in its embrace Now let us get out in our gardens and play with the ideas she gives us English In this small book on garden design Jan Johnsen does an excellent job laying out many ideas that should be considered when designing a garden Some of these excellent ideas are ones that are rarely if ever seen in other garden design books For example she discusses the different aspects of the light on the east south west and north sides of your house and how these micro climates affect our moods and thus should affect the garden design This book is not however inclusive as she neglects talking about designing your garden to fit your house s architecture neighborhood natural landscape this is a good garden design book and is one of many that you should reference when planning a new garden or renovating an existing one English I loved Heaven is a Garden I read it nightly pre bed and it made me feel so much peaceful as I turned off the light to sleep Bought a copy for each of my siblings The author s warm wisdom will make for a great gift I love how she wrote especially about trees rocks water and colors for gardens I was inspired and I m not even the Master Gardener of the family English The spaces were lovely I rated it a 4 instead of 5 because the plants were great for New York gardens however I live in Southern California where many of the plants won t work Hardscape ideas were really terrific English While the book design leaves something to be desired there is some great garden design information here It s easy to find practical information about testing soil moisture and creating a harmonious color scheme but I am always on the lookout for books that delve into how to create a garden with real charisma which is not easy This one has some great tips for how to plan a garden with that je ne sais quoi we are all looking for English
