In the second short Jan discovers a very very mysterious thing inside her dishwasher But that s not the whole story not by a long shot It s a tale that involves a bunch of exotic particles cascading dimensions a gun that shoots mermaids an Angelic Choir of one periscopes and yes really a really big explosion Jan and The Spooky Periscope Incident is packed with weirdness explosions periscopes and shameless abuse of scientific terminology Jan and the Spooky Periscope Incident The Chronicles of Jan 1 Jan and the Spooky Periscope Incident by Paul Western Pittard is really two short stories both about the slightly mad scientist Jan a chaos causing inventor whose experiments and antics appear dangerous to the narrator a close friend and always hugely entertaining to the reader. The stories are full of absurd and very funny ideas whether it be the periscopes in her house or the alien in the dishwasher I originally came across the author by reading a serious and experimental book of his and was surprised how versatile writer Western Pittard turns out to be To pull off this hilarious series of amusing situations and highly original creatures is quite an achievement.
