Mind Bridges book One story felt like it was unfinished when I was done reading The rest offered clear endings This is a book I will read again in the future Julia H West This slender book contains seven very diverse stories each employing some kind of magic Five of the stories have been previously published in various places all are engaging and satisfying The author has drawn on her academic background in anthropology to create seven detailed richly imagined settings any one of which is complete and real enough to spawn many stories which I hope will happen These tales reflect a humane and compassionate worldview The protagonists are bright and resourceful women Highly recommended Julia H West If I could give this collection of interesting stories three and a half stars I would With one exception a story that doesn t seem finished all of the stories are well thought out with good strong characters and well realized backgrounds In her introduction West discusses how her background in anthropology has influenced the way she presents magic in fiction and unlike most introductions this one is worth reading Julia H West I won this on Goodreads These were some interesting and unique short stories I do enjoy magic related stories and fairy tales so this book had that element Many of the stories are well written but like all short story collections some were boring while others were readable My favorites were Not the Best Neighbors and Skin and Bones Overall I really liked it Julia H West
