The kind of girl could love lyrics 5 StarsI m glad I read this book I had wanted to read it for a while and overall it is a good read However for me the stories just didn t go above and beyond there was no real stretch of the imagination and most of the stories bled into each other I think this is because the collection focuses on the viewpoints of girls living in America what it s like to grow up childhood encounters which stay with them etc The only stories which stood out to me were My Weight and Bad Girl which were two powerfully written flash fictions emphasising the raw emotions of teenage girls Apart from these though the collection is pretty mediocre The Kind of Girl Excellent flash fictions I particularly enjoyed the focus on girls and women and class and sex Lots to admire her in terms of concision and the impact these words have The Kind of Girl Just like all the other short short chapbook contest winners I ve read in the Rose Metal Press series to date Betty Superman Shampoo Horns the kind of girl this one is also amazingly satisfying After reading each individual section in the kind of girl I felt that I d read something complete something which motivated me to think about my role as a parent spouse Henderson writes smartly not wasting a single word Each section tells a story I can read and relate to in less than 5 minutes These short short chapbook contest winners out with Rose Metal Press are my lunchtime dream reading So if you have a short amount of time but want a full story the kind of girl delivers PLUS it is prettily designed and easy to tote around and hold Not only did I enjoy reading the kind of girl I ve enjoyed reading them all The Kind of Girl review to come The Kind of Girl
