Against the tide book by martha karua 5 stars Young Adult Science Fiction Fantasy Childrens Books HAHAHAH I was right I knew it had to be her I finished this book in a day I was too curious pause my reading for anything not important Major SPOILER ALERT Introduction to KOVO the ape Dude got serious anger issues by the way I wished I hadn t read the series 2 book 1 yet because Kovo s behavior here is quite different compare to the later book I m curious as to what actually changed that Before I started reading chapter 2 I was curious about what people actually thought about Meilin so I checked out the wiki fandom and shocked that a lot of people think she is cool and best character in the book Usually those who favor her seemed to hate Abeke for some reason I don t necessarily agree I like her fighting skill her bravery as well as her confidence But besides that Meilin is a pain in the arse character In real life Meilin and I won t get along at all we will rubbing each other up the wrong way all the time Her bad side overshadows her nice side by ALOT so seriously I see I see that as a NOT cool thing She is moody snappy and extremely rude to her friends and other older Greencloaks even to some Great Beast She is very over confident and arrogant towards her peers she comes off as someone who is VERY entitled and impatient like clicking her fingers twice to order Conor to blow the conch She is also very hostile towards someone and everyone even though she have no actual proof to back up that suspicion she just assumed everyone is a suspect but herself how can you when you don t even know how the conquerors is working their evil plan I also don t like how she treats Jhi most of the time especially when she refer the bonding as controlling Jhi Not only that even after everything She still uses Jhi for fighting but still does not trust her SA s abilities and usually consider Jhi a non worthy of her AS choice She is also very defensive and likes to think with her fists rather than thinking about the consequences of her actions when Rollan pointed out the danger Jhi was in when she was busy fighting the sharks Meilin is the only one besides the 3 of them who don t consider other people s feeling occasionally Rollan is also the her punching bag She acts like she is the ONLY one in the world that is affected by war As if Now some of you will say it s because of the Bile influence but seriously even before that Meilin does show some sort of an attitude problem and had an air of princess entitlement like she is better than others Maybe she already had that trait a lil in her but was further enhanced when she was under the influence But that still does not excuse her rude behavior impatience and ordering people around and oh her option about Jhi as her SA Abeke the authors tried a lil to hard to make contrast personality between the two girls But I think they overdid it they made Meilin a snobby skilled fighter and Abeke the too nice punching bag friend Abeke is a gentle and non confrontational character but that in turn made her an easy punching bag for others especially Meilin You know you can still be kind gentle and peaceful fighter with a BACKBONE In real life Meilin and Abeke would be throwing insults and avoiding each other as much as they can But because this is a children s book I guess they don t behave how a normal Teen would have behaved I hated that she always get insulted mocked and is backing away from having a backbone to defend herself Basically Abeke lacked audacity to defend herself and standing her ground solid when pushed around If the authors had showed some of that maybe Abeke won t come out as a too goody two shoes Can I just say while I appreciated Abeke s compassion and empathy to others I still wished the race with the orangutan had ended differently I wished that Abeke was in the lead and almost wining but decided to stop and rescue that baby orangutan instead of being far behind losing the race and stopping to rescue the baby You know why. Against the tide kindle download because I agree with Meilin it was a weird way to win the racewhile it was cool and sensitivity of her Abeke didn t actually proof her leopard borrowed skill is supreme as the author is trying to convince us Basically they empathized on making Abeke look a complete opposite to Meilin s personality and behavior that they keep downplaying her skills and ability to actually convince us that Abeke is all that Now now let s not forget that Meilin s actual confidence in fighting may have come from her Bile influence without it Meilin maybe just the same as the rest of them I m not saying she is better than everyone But still thoughThe author also try the same thing with Conor and Rollon the difference is that they made Conor gentle but with much skill and courage Rollan has courage but let s face it he is not exactly skilled in his borrowed powers nor is he good a good fighter He is basically a comic relief really In that way Conor and Rollon balanced each other quite well The girls on the other hand is not The whole incident with sharks and ocean community is very cool I liked that alot I think this book made me laugh quite a lot especially Tangaroa and Ngaio They were hilarious as hell I loved that jolly moment I m glad only Conor stood by Abeke but I m sad that even he thought maybe Abeke could be the mole He didn t even consider others much Although he later hated himself for thinking that I think Rollan and Abeke is by far the most detached from each other they only talk when they had too but most of the time they are just around Conor just avoids Meilin like a plague if he can because let s face itshe is angry 99% of the time LOLI m not sure the whole Mulop meeting was all that I mean it took nearly half the book to met him and to me he didn t quite standout like the other GB besides having vast knowledge of things and being a complete weirdo LOL Mulop was an OK GB The twist at the end was. Investing against the tide pdf as predicted by me LOL So I was not surprised it was her But I was a lil be shocked that there is a possibility that her father may had been tricked into giving his own daughter the Bile in order to guarantee an SA Shane have no real power.
