Like so many married couples with young children Lacey and Jake have lost the spark that once drew them together Now Lacey fights tears as she tries to juggle all the burdens of running her household and caring for her children while Jake retreats into stony silence and spends endless hours at the office It seems impossible that they ll find their way back to one another but boy do they ever The first thing that struck me about this novella was that it s written about a couple who is already married That is so so rare in romance which tends to focus on how the hero and heroine fall in love rather than what happens when they lose their way a couple of years down the line Kudos to the author for choosing to eschew the happy rainbows and butterflies part of the relationship and deal with the grittier part that happens after the I Do s It was a refreshing change The storyline struck a deep chord with me The overwhelming loneliness isolation and sadness that Lacey feels at the beginning of the book were so clearly described that I almost felt myself transported back to those difficult early mom years and wanted to cry along with her The characters were sympathetic engaging and well written. Giving Up epubor And finally the love scenes were great definitely steamy I have to say that they were a lot less graphic explicit than in many romances I ve read recently but they were still powerful All in all my only disappointment was that this was just a novella Too short Hopefully the author will write something else hopefully full length soon Cammie J Lynn
