Historical fiction the bookshop strikes back book review In dem kleinen 51 Seiten umfassenden Buch Aus Liebe zum Buch beschreibt Ann Patchett den Weg zur Er ffnung die Hintergr nde und welcher Buchladen ihr liebster war Ich mochte den Aufbau des Textes da sie die Geschichte quasi von hinten aufrollt beginnend mit sich und Freunden in ihrem Keller wo sie Buchbestellungen einpacken da der Buchladen es alleine nicht mehr schafft Mit jedem Satz merkte ich als Leserin dass die Schriftstellerin B cher und auch ihre Heimatstadt liebt und dadurch zu mehr wird als nur Autorin und Buchh ndlerin Mein Job ist zu etwas geworden das ich mir nie h tte vorstellen k nnen und w hrend Parnassus sicher davon profitiert geht es gar nicht mehr nur um Parnassus Ohne zu wissen dass es so einen Job gibt ganz abgesehen davon dass er frei ist bin ich unabsichtlich zur Sprecherin f r unabh ngige Buchhandlungen geworden Seite 49f Ann Patchett This is a work of non fiction but reads like a short story The author is the protagonist She is a novelist who lives in Nashville The inciting incident is the closing down of the last bookshop in the city The antagonists are the unpredictability of the retail book market and the main character s own self doubt This is not life writing in my opinion It reads like an adventure story The best life writing is about characters rather than events This story is about events rather than characters It contains what appears to me to be a couple of technical inconsistencies in the tense of the narrative It starts in the present moves into the past and here and then moves back into the present again Unless you are a creative writing technical nit picker like me you will not notice this nor the occasional switch from direct to indirect speech It also contains some direct addresses to the reader.
