Goatee or no goatee
Watching TV or talking on the phone and that is without even leaving their homes Their own husbands have no power to challenge an accusation made my a member of the Taliban Men can be killed for failing to display a beard of the regulation type Of course the imposition of these and numerous other rules is entirely arbitrary and the best way to maintain this kind of control is by keeping people in ignorance Under the Taliban education for women simply ceases to exist While education for men is severely limited The story of the woman who repeatedly sabotaged a well so that she would not lose her only opportunity to leave the house and meet friends was heartbreaking and there are many other equally sad stories.
Book there is no goat head
Several reviewers have said the author is racist and xenophobic I disagree though I can see where someone could make that argument The author points out frequently that many of the men she spoke with were uneducated However that is a word the men used themselves Also is a word racist if it is true Many of the men are uneducated in that they have had little or no formal schooling The author is also rather negative on the Pashtun s views towards women She dedicated a full chapter to this This can also come across as xenophobic and at times does. There is no goatfly The major reason I only gave this book 3 stars is because the writing is somewhat dry The author tried to make the stories interesting but so much had to be left out for security reasons that the style is somewhat bland Reading too long at one time grew boring and I would have to take a break there is no goat This was a fascinating inside look at both the military culture and the afghans that interact with our troops While the author is not a practiced writer I felt her tone added to the story instead of detracting She judges the locals she encounters through her own values and perceptions which I felt was a second story about the mindset of those contractors and troops engaged with afghan natives As a former anthropology major this made for a fascinating tale As someone uncertain about what western nations are hoping to accomplish in Afghanistan though the story left me feeling pessimistic and depressed I m recommending this to anyone interested in current events there is no goat A good read but with disappointing content. There is no goatchat Having worked in the Intelligence Community I tried to make allowances for material which would have expanded the story but which couldn t be published due to classification guidance I m afraid even with that allowance I was unable to discover anything about the culture Dunham was describing What I did find was a massive slant to western culture that assumes no other worldview could possibly be as good I found a lack of understanding of tribal cultures and an inability to separate the American ideal of liberty from the author s perspective I believe she did both the reader and the US military a disservice with that inability. Book there is no goat head The book is well worth the read but will not provide a look either at Pashtun or tribal culture there is no goat This book was a pretty interesting read about the author s time in Afghanistan While you re not privy to exact details of where she was or what she did you do get a general sense of some day to day life during her deployment. Book there is no goat lyrics There are two things to note One the author could have used a better editor Frankly her current editor did a great disservice to her There were multiple sections in chapters that were loosely tied together but the transition between them was just another paragraph. Book there is no goat song Secondly the author does have a bit of bias against the Afghani community she was in IMO She refers to people as unintelligent multiple times in the book As best I could tell she is referring to the fact that they don t have formal schooling or education As the book goes on it starts to wear on you a bit. Book there is no goat farm Just started the book for a book club but found I m not even willing to try any Read two chapters to see if There was anything in The book except her very judgemental shallow opinion The book did not try to bring in history to explain actions or discuss how women in many parts of Afghanistan attended college drove and had careers before the Taliban. There is no goat kindle store She discusses people lying during job interviews without understanding their culture or background She Wrote about inbreeding marrying second and first cousins and how shee knew due to inbreeding they were not intelligent. EBook there is no goat yoga S military base she gained a unique insight into their culture perceptions and ways of thinking Through the course of interviewing over 500 Pashtun Afghan men Jennifer witnessed the heartbreak of war the still apparent control of the Taliban and effects of decades long oppression on the local population There is no goat provides revelations about the Pashtun Afghan culture like no other book The personal stories present the reader with an understanding of the day to day challenges and dangers many Afghans face The book explores the Afghans views on crucial topics including politics corruption the role of Afghan women and Osama bin Laden The first hand accounts contained within the pages of there is no goat present exclusive visions into the minds of Afghan men there is no goatShe has a lot of observations which are fascinating but she seems to judge everyone I want to ask her if she can imagine no other reason for the Afghans attitudes than the ones she assume Finally it became just too uncomfortable for me to read there is no goat This is a candid memoir of the authors years as the officer in charge of staffing on a U. There is no goat booklet S military base in Afghanistan All bases all over the world employ locals as support staff security kitchen as well as interpreters and other kinds of guides and intelligence and communication Ms Dunham interviewed hundreds of Afghans during her tour and gained a range of insight Much of what Dunham recounts is funny while she also covers the tragic and mundane Ultimately the book is entertaining while providing tremendous insight and understanding. Book there is no goats There is nothing controversial about this book While Dunham puts forth her own impressions and critiques of Afghan culture she cleared the manuscript with military higher ups who confirm that there is no violation of ethics or confidential information There is also very little action considering her tour of duty took place during a time of active warfare In that respect the book is very real She clearly has no agenda or desire to paint herself a hero This is simply her experience and reflection on her experience with the Afghan people. There is no goatherd I have many years of college and three degrees in history and history education I am sorry to say that I have not studied Afghan history nor have I been a fan of writing on current events Never the less war in Afghanistan and Iraq have gone on for so long I want to build my background in these areas This is a gentle introduction to the experience of thousands of American military personnel Well worth a few hours there is no goat Jennifer Dunham provides a window into the beating heart of Afghanistan through her privileged role on an American army base interviewing and vetting Afghans who wanted to work on the base Despite not being allowed to leave the base and so having no direct opportunity to meet ordinary Afghanis other than those seeking employment or already employed she was able to gain a fascinating insight into the culture and the challenges faced daily by men and women in Afghanistan The power of the Taliban to Instill fear through the imposition of inhuman rules is shocking While no one in the west can now be in ignorance of the living shroud of the burqa by which women are depersonalised and isolated few of us may also be aware that women can be condemned for laughing Dunham left Afghanistan feeling far from confident that things can change significantly for a country that has endured centuries of strife and conflict yet it seems to me that no matter how much the Taliban wish to reset the clock and impose a new and universal dark age of oppression the knowledge that there are other possibilities cannot be extinguished It is to be hoped that the lasting legacy of British American and other nations soldiers who worked alongside Afghans and did their best to move the country into the 21st century through peaceful means and reconstructive work will help to be a beacon for those who strive for freedom and democracy Dunham s book is a small but important contribution to keeping Afghanistan and it s people in the minds of those of us who are free and have never lived under an oppressive regime there is no goat The typical example of American ways are the correct ways to act and think and everybody who doesn t think like us must be converted or pittied or judged combined with the we are the heroes of the world and you need us to help you otherwise. There is no goatfly I was interested in the stories of individuals and the general interpretation of the facts but it started to go and to this direction of center of universe and got less interesting for me Maybe if the exact same stories were told without the constant oh how couldn t they see we were saving them or oh how is it possible a person doesn t want to be far from their family I would respect the book . There is no goatfly I still like the book however it s a page turner and a simple reading about a subject I d never go for reading and was still able to raise my interest I like the fact that daily mundane facts are related the inside day by day account of a country s culture excites me than big historical and political ones Update i wrote the above early in the book It only got worse the writing is poor the topic organization is inconsistent there is a lot of repetition She is iconsistent in a deeper level as well her own opinion of the characters and stories the same behavior she judges positive in a paragraph she may cooment negatively in another Some serious proof reading still needed While doing so they may use the opportunity to correct the dozens of grammar mistakes and to remove the stupid weak obvious racist comments the author adds as a last sentence to each paragraph there is no goat This fascinating first person account by a counter intelligent agent stationed in Afghanistan is at times mind boggling eye opening and gut splitting funny The author describes her many interviews of Afghan men in clear unadorned tell it like it is prose It reads like a government CI report of which I ve read many than a work of literature but it works She was stationed near the Pakistani border in a base surrounded by small rural Pashtun villages The level of ignorance deceit corruption poverty and stupidity she describes is almost hard to believe yet it all rings dismayingly true Politically correct it s not and the one or two bad reviews are clearly coming from the self appointed PC police There are Afghan men who don t know the names of their children and sometimes not even how many they have Another man thought his father was two years older than he was One job applicant described how his brother was killed by an IED while that same brother was in the next room interviewing for the same position If you ever plan to go there read this first The author clearly has a red white and blue soldier s political leaning but you wouldn t want anything else in a military CI agent now would you Still the picture she paints makes you wonder why we ever went there and certainly proves as if any proof was needed what an utter failure the idea of nation building is in this tribal land where national borders are just lines on a map there is no goat
